WHAT IS PUBLIC SPEAKING?

ARISTOTLE’S MODEL OF
COMMUNIC ATION
HISTORY

SOPHISTS were public speakers who delivered their speech in


front of a large in an auditorium. Their primary goal was to win
an argument or to persuade the audience. For them, the
“TRUTH IS RELATIVE.”
ARISTOTLE was the primary critic of the SOPHISTS. He
argued that the truth is not relative. He derived the three (3)
modes of persuasion in public speaking.
• 1. Logos -logic
• 2.pathos -emotional appeal
• 3.ethos -credibility
RHETORIC

RHETORIC means the art of persuasion. This also


refers to orality or oral communication.

Purposes:
• 1. Information
• 2. Persuasion
• 3. Entertainment
