1. SCOPE

This method statement is applicable for AAC block masonry installation that are intended in
“The Sobha Tower” on sheik Zayed road, Dubai, ensuring the works are carried out in
accordance to project specifications/ contract documents with reference to approved material
submittal and follow up mockup etc.

The purpose of the procedure is to ensure that all the personnel involved in this activity are
fully aware of the safe methods to be practiced and to ensure that documentations are
generated to record and verify that works executed are in an acceptable manner in compliance
with manufacturer recommendations.

5. RESPONSIBILITIES

Description Responsibility

method statement and to ensure that the site team is

6. METHOD TO BE EMPLOYED / PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED

For each step / activity documental / pictorial evidence will be recorded using plan grid
software.

6.1. SETTING OUT

1. After approval of the mock-up, commence the block works for other areas by
setting out from the gridlines/ off set from grid lines and checking of surface
condition of substrate.
2. The surveyor has to set out the block wall on the substrate as per the approved
layout shop drawings and structural as-built drawings. Any discrepancies should
be brought into the attention to Consultant Engineer.
3. All block walls shall be accurately set out and the surface of the foundation or
floor shall be roughened to receive the first mortar bed. First block layer shall
be laid on solid beds of mortar made of 1: 5 cements: sand mix.
4. If applicable ,damp-pro of course (DPC) shall be laid horizontally beneath the
alignment of the block on a mortar bed for all external periphery walls in ground
floor.
5. First layer of block work shall be inspected and approved by Consultant
Engineer for each location.

6.2. AAC BLOCK INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Approved block and mortar mix shall only be used.


2. Thoroughly clean the substrate laying surfaces and laitance and loose materials before
commencing the work.
3. Spread the mortar bedding insufficient quantity to ensure that masonry units are laid
within the working time of the mortar.
4. Place units with a single action and with minimum tapping. If units are moved after
the initial placing, remove the mortar and re-lay.
5. Angle and reveal shall be kept true. Square and plumb.
6. Masonry units shall be laid free of smears, mortar slicks, stains, cracked, broken edges
and corner and other defects detrimental to finished appearance.
7. Unit shall be laid up in running (half lap stretcher) bond with vertical joints in
successive course centering on midpoint of the unit below. Joint should be uniform in
width of 3- 5 mm.
8. Cutting of masonry units shall be executed by power driven masonry saw. Cut units to
accommodate all dimensions, steel framing, fixtures, recesses, and other work. Cutting
by power driven masonry saw must be done only on area allocated; these areas must
be isolated and enclosed with green net to reduce spread of noise and dust as a result
of block cutting.
9. Walls shall be constructed as true planes and tested with a 3000mm straight edge
place anywhere on the wall in any direction shall be true plane and plumb. Each
horizontal joint shall be level and at same height in all walls around the room and true
to the lines and dimensions indicated on the drawings. Vertical joints in alternate
course shall be plumb and inline. Un-satisfactory work should be removed and
replaced.
10. Units shall be accurately cut and fitted at heads of window, window stools, head of
other Door and other openings as necessary to accommodate door frames. Window
frames, window stool , etc.

11. Curing is required to done just once after the completion of block work. Mortar joints
on wall shall be moistened thrice a day for 2 days.
12. Lift height (maximum) 1.5M can be constructed at a time.
13. Last Layer should be full block; block below this layer is the one to be cut to suit site
requirement.
14. Provide stiffener columns and lintel beams (can be GI or RCC) as per approved typical
block work details/ as instructed by Consultant Engineer.
15. MEP provisions in blockwork shall be provided as per the approved drawings/ as
instructed by Consultant MEP Engineer.

6.3. TIES/REINFORCEMENT

1. Block wall joint to RC wall / column should be reinforced with ties at every alternate
course as per the approved drawing
2. For stiffener column provide ties at every alternative layer as well.
3. Provide Head restraints at slab/ Beam soffit at 1800 c/c max. in vertical joint as per
standard details.
4. All ties used should be galvanized for internal walls and Stainless steel for External
walls from Approved supplier. Ties should be fastened with the approved fixing system.
5. Fiber bed joint reinforcement shall be placed in alternate layers as shown in the
approved drawings.
