This portfolio item summarizes an impromptu conversation that took place between conducting professional learning sessions on gifted education. The conversation informed discussions on the second day regarding programming standards from the National Association for Gifted Children. Specifically, the conversation helped raise awareness of deficiencies in the district related to Standard 5. Bringing up this real-world example from the conversation helped participants understand what the standards recommend and what is actually being implemented, aiding the goal of helping them better understand the NAGC standards. Acquiring the information from superiors for this purpose was somewhat challenging.

Owner/Creator Author, Murray, McDaniel, Johnson Site Found Main Office, Woodstock High School Description of Item Content This is a written record of a conversation that just happened to take place in between conducting Day 1 and Day 2 of my PL sessions. The topics brought forth in the conversation informed some discussion in the Day 2 sessions regarding the programming standard (Standard 5) from NAGC. Relation to Goals/Significance The topic of this conversation helped to further the portion of Goal 1 related to raising awareness of NAGC standards. From a program evaluation conducted in an earlier class in this program of study, I learned that our district is quite deficient when it comes to Standard 5 from NAGC. This conversation was further confirmation of those findings. I was able to bring this point out in the Day 2 sessions so that hopefully having the participants make that connection of what should be, according to NAGC Standards, and what actually is, might help them retain the crux of the NAGC standards more readily. This conversation provided a great example to help further that goal. Acquisition Challenge Level Challenging superiors regarding something they 1=Easy; 5=Difficult may not know, even if there is no good answer, is always somewhat daunting. Rating=3
