Structural Notes For
Typical Inner Villa

1. Design Notes

1.1. Introduction:

The report describes the structural Analysis & design TYPICAL VILLA As
per latest architectural dwgs.

In this phase of study the basic design Criteria ( Loading Materials, etc)
shall be as per the project Arch dwgs. A rigorous structural analysis is
performed with three dimensional modeling using programs Etabs 16.0x,Safe
12.x,

1.2. Description Of project:

The project consists of GF + FF+ SF

2. Design Criteria:
The building straining forces (Gravitational and Lateral ) and capacity of the
structural resisting elements were determined in accordance to the
following codes of practice:

• The uniform building code SBC-301 for the determination of

lateral forces intensity and distribution ( earth quake and wind
pressures)
• ACI-318-11 for the determination of loads combinations, the
design and detailing of various concrete elements ( slabs, beams,
columns, walls and foundations)

2.1. Dead loads:

The dead loads of the buildings are :

• Self weight of Structural elements based on preliminary

dimensions of the structural sections and materials specific
weight.
• Superimposed dead loads as derived from the contract dwgs.

( See attached load calculations sheets )

Structural Notes For
Typical Inner Villa

2.2. Live loads:

Super imposed live loads shall be as derived from the dwgs as per their
usage and Dwg no. SG-01

( See attached load calculations sheets )

2.3. Wind loads:

Wind loads shall be in accordance to SBC-01 with the following
parameters shall be considered:

2.4. Quake Loads:

Quake Loads shall be in accordance to SBC-301 with the following
parameters shall be considered:

2.5. Load combinations

3. Analysis & Design

3.1. Numerical Analysis

The analysis of the building is performed using Etabs Software. The

following s are the assumptions made for different models.

• Slabs and Walls are represented by the shell finite elements (

triangles and quadrangles ), the raft foundation as thick plate, all
beams and columns as bar elements
• The Foundation are set on elastic supports ( Function of the sub
grade modulus of soil) considering modulus of subgrade reaction =
12500KH/m3

3.2. Columns, Beams and Foundations Numerical Analysis

Columns
The reinforced concrete columns were used mainly to resist gravitational
loads and the lateral loads induced by the building sway due to lateral
forces. They were represented in the numerical analysis frame element
fixed edge connections.
( Columns can be design Checked from Etabs Model)

Beams
Beams were used in the structural Analysis for the following.
• Beams to used support the slabs and transfer loads to the column
& walls.

Typical Inner Villa

• Reinforced their edges to the vertical elements ( walls and /or columns ), the
concrete main role of these beams was to induce a framing behavior to the
beams, lateral resisting system, allowing therefore, the reduction of
fixed at earth quake moments and
corresponding lateral sway of the building

( Beam reinforcement can be compared from SAFE concrete design )

3.3. Foundations

Geotechnical Investigations revealed a strong soil type with the

bearing capacity of about 150Kn/M2 and recommended the use of
isolated/compared foundations. ( Soil Subgrade reaction=125000 KN/M³
( Footings are checked for Safe bearing Capacity & Moments from SAFE
Model )

3.4. Soft Wares

• Advanced Computer soft ware, based on the finite element

methods (FEM), were used to evaluate the exerted forces on the
structure, as well as to calculate the building response.
• After assessing the staining stresses on the structural system
due to the applied gravitational and lateral forces, the Concrete
Columns and walls will be investigated accordingly.
• CIS Series : Etabs 9.0x For Analysis Modeling
• CIS Series: Safe 12.x For Raft and Slab Designs

3.5. Structural Materials

3.5.1. Concrete:

Concrete Compressive strength (fc’ Cylindrical) shall be as follows:

20 mpa For Lean Concrete & Concrete Fill

28 mpa For Raft Foundations, Grade Beams, Beams, Slabs Etc.
35 mpa Columns

3.5.2. Reinforcement:
Steel reinforcement shall be high Yield deformed bars grade 60 ( fy =
420mpa)
