Nikoo: What’s up? Have you been practicing the previous lesson?

Yasi: But we gotta make sure you’ve learned it. So please answer the questions that
we’re gonna ask you after the beep.

Nikoo: What is airport shuttle?

Yasi: What is the meaning of accommodation?

Yasi: Accommodation is a place to stay or live like a hotel. It’s a typical accommo-
dation for travelers. Usually for rich travelers!

Nikoo: That’s not true! Anyone can stay at a hotel! You can find cheap hotels too.
Three-start hotels or two- star hotels.

Yasi: Thank you but I prefer staying at a hostel or somewhere else to staying at a
cheap hotel!

Nikoo: Well, everyone is different.

Yasi: You are right. I can’t speak for everyone. Anyways, let’s move on.

Nikoo: In the previous lesson, we booked our hotel online via booking.com, but as
we said, you can make a hotel reservation on the phone too.

Yasi: Not many people do that these days, but it’s a good idea to learn how to do it.

Nikoo: So, listen to the following conversation to see how you can book a hotel on
the phone:

Receptionist: Hotel Movenpick. How Can I help you?

Caller: Oh, good morning. I’d like to book a double room with a bathroom for May
24th, please.

Receptionist: That’s fine. All our bedrooms are en suite.

Caller: Right. And how much is that?

Receptionist: It’s $60 a night, and breakfast is included in the price.

Caller: That’s great. And has the hotel got parking?

Receptionist: No, I’m afraid not.

Caller: Oh, what a shame. Ok, well, never mind. I’ll take it.

Receptionist: Right. Can I have your credit card details please?

[Music]

Yasi: Not hard at all!

Nikoo: No, not at all! But let’s go through some new words here. The first one is
double room. A double room has one big bed for two people.

Yasi: And en suite means that the room has its own bathroom. Just remember
these two words for later cause we’re gonna teach you way more words in the
next lessons!

[Music]

Nikoo: Ok, here we are. We boarded our plane and got to our destination, and took
a cab to get to the hotel.

Yasi: And now we are standing at the doorsteps of our hotel. Let’s get inside!

Nikoo: But wait! What time is it? You know you can’t check in at all times, right?

Yasi: What do you mean?!

Nikoo: Most hotels require guests to check in after 2 p.m., though there are always
exceptions. You gotta check the check-in time on booking.com. You can also set
it yourself for most hotels. For example, you can tell them that you will arrive be-
tween 9 to 11 a.m.

Yasi: So you can’t check in before or after that?

Nikoo: Sometimes no! Cause they need to clean the room, or the room could still
be occupied before that time.

Yasi: Yes, it could be occupied, it means that other guests could still be in it.

Nikoo: So, keep the check-in and check-out time in mind. It’s really important. You
don’t wanna sit at the lobby of the hotel with all your luggage, do you?

Yasi: OK, now we are at the hotel, it’s time to check in.

Nikoo: Yup, it’s time to get the keys to our room and sign some papers!

Yasi: So, listen to a conversation at the check-in desk and learn how to do it:

Checking-In

Hotel: Good afternoon. Welcome to Movenpick Hotel. How may I help you?

Guest: I have a reservation for today. It’s under the name of Taheri.

Hotel: Can you please spell that for me, ma’am?

Guest: Sure. T-A-H-E-R-I

Hotel: Yes, Ms. Taheri, we’ve reserved a double room for you with a view of the sea
for two nights. Is that correct?

Guest: Yes, it is.

Hotel: Excellent. We already have your credit card information on file. If you’ll just
sign the receipt along the bottom, please.

Guest: Whoa! Five hundred and ninety dollars a night!

Hotel: Yes, ma’am. We are a five_ star hotel after all.

Guest: Well, fine. I’m here on business anyway, so at least I’m staying on the com-
pany’s dime. What’s included in this cost anyway?

Hotel: A full Continental buffet every morning, free airport shuttle service, and use
of the hotel’s safe are all included.

Guest: So, what’s not included in the price?

Hotel: Well, you will find a mini-bar in your room. Use of it will be charged to your
account. Also, the hotel provides room service, at an additional charge of course.

Guest: Hmm. Ok, so what room am I in?

Hotel: Room 111. Here is your key. To get to your room, take the elevator on the
right up to the fourth floor. Turn left once you exit the elevator, your room will be
on the left hand side. A bellboy will bring your bags up shortly.

Guest: Great. Thanks.

Hotel: Should you have any questions or requests, please dial ‘O’ from your room.
Also, the internet is available in the lobby 24 hours a day.

Guest: Ok, and what time is the check-out?

Hotel: At midday, ma’am.

Guest: Ok, thanks.

Hotel: My pleasure, ma’am. Have a wonderful stay at Movenpick Hotel.

Yasi: When you go to a hotel, you will have a version of the above conversation.

Nikoo: It won’t be exactly the same. It will be a bit different in various situations,
for example, sometimes they ask for your passport or ID to write down the infor-
mation.

Yasi: you’re right .so listen to an example of another situation.

[Music]

Guest: Hello. I have a reservation. My name is Nikoo Taheri.

Hotel: May I see your ID, please, Ms. Taheri?

Guest: Sure, here’s my passport.

Hotel: Right, could you please fill in this form?

Guest: of course.

Hotel: thank you so much. You’re in room 333. It’s a single queen-size bed, spa-
cious, and nonsmoking. Is that suitable?

Guest: It sounds great.

[Music]

Yasi: OK, let’s go through some of the new words in the conversation. The first one
was company’s dime. The guest said that she was staying on the company’s dime.
It means that her company is paying for the hotel, not her.

Nikoo: And the next one was continental buffet. It’s a buffet-style breakfast, a light

breakfast with things like coffee, tea, jam, butter or baked food.

Yasi: Buffet is a meal consisting of several dishes from which guests serve them-
selves. It means that no one will bring you the food, you should go fill your plate
yourself.

Nikoo: And the next word is bellboy which is a person working at the hotel and
doing things like carrying guests’ luggage.

Yasi: And finally dial. It means to call someone on the phone. For example, in case
of an emergency, dial 911.

Nikoo: In the second conversation, the hotel receptionist said the room is spa-
cious, what does that mean?

Yasi: spacious is an adjective. It means very big.

Nikoo: how about queen size bed? Is it the same as a normal double bed?

Yasi: It’s actually bigger and more comfortable than a double bed, but it’s smaller
than a king bed.

Yasi: spacious is an adjective. It means very big.

Nikoo: how about queen size bed? Is it the same as a normal double bed?

‫این سایز تخت مثل همون تختای معمولی دو نفره است؟‬

Yasi: It’s actually bigger and more comfortable than a double bed, but it’s smaller
than a king bed.
