C. Presenting After presenting and reading the

lesson from the underlined sentences Anna: I`ve noticed that the
class, Yes Anna? underlined sentence is about
what Juvy did.
Very good, Anna?
It is about the actions of Juvy.

So do they have the same Jake: Yes ma`am they have the
meaning, Yes Jake? same meaning.

If yes, what makes them The difference between the two

different with each other? sentences is how the sentences
are structured.
Exactly, Jake!

So can you guest what our topic

for today? Student: it is about the Active
and Passive voice
Very good! Anna.

Our topic for today`s is about the

Active and Passive voice.
D. Discussion new concepts and To understand clearly what are
practicing new skills #1 passive and active voice is, let us
discuss first the voice.

So what is the voice of verb?

Anyone, yes Anna? Anna: I think ma’am the voice of
verb is the action that see in the
sentence.

Very good Anna, but it is not just

about the action in the sentence.

Because the voice of verb is

focus on the function of this
subject be In either the doer or
the receiver of the action.

So what are the keywords here?

Yes Carla? Carla: The subject the doer and
the action ma’am
Exactly! The subject the doer
and the action.

The subject be in the doer or

receiver of the action.

That’s why it is always important

to identify the subject and the
verb of the sentence, for us to be
able to understand, if the subject
is the doer or the receiver of the
action.

So what are the two types of Mara: passive and active voice
voice, anyone? yes Mara?

Very good! Mara.

So we have a passive and active

voice.

So let`s differentiate this two

types, let us first discuss what
the active is.

When we say active voice it is

about what? Anyone, any idea?
Mae: I think active voice indicate
Yes Mae? the subject the verb and the
object.

Very good answer! Mae.

The subject do the action that

received of the object. Because it
used to indicate that the subject
of the sentence, is the doer of n
the action, simply means that
our subject is the one doing the
action.

It also formulated with a

structure.

SUBJECT +VERB+OBJECT
The subject or also known as
doer plus verb plus object or also
known as a receiver.

For you to understand let`s have

an example.

The boy kicked the ball

Let`s find the subject in the

sentence. But before that, let me
ask you, what is the subject? Lyla: the subject Is the who
Anyone, Yes Layla? being talk in the sentence

Exactly! Subject is the one who

being talk in the sentence or the
one who perform the action in
the sentence.

So again who is being talk in the Lara: the boy

sentence? Yes Lara?

Very good Lara! It is the boy

How about the verb. Earlier I

said that verb is the action word,
or it`s described what the
subject is doing.

So let`s find, what is the verb in

this sentence.

What did the boy? Yes Mira? Mira: kicked ma’am

Exactly! Kicked.

So the verb in the sentence is

kicked.

How about the object. What is

object? Lara? Lara: object is the receiver of the
action ma’am.
Very good!

Object is the one who received

the action of the subject.
Vina: it is the ball
So what is the object in this
sentence? Yes Vina?
Everyone: yes ma’am
So in this sentence does our
subject do the action?

Yes the boy is the one who

kicked the ball, it means that our
subject is the doer of the action.
Therefore this sentence is an
example of the active voice.

When we say active voice ;

@ It is used for non-scientific

writing.
@ it makes your meaning
clear for the reader.
@ More concise than those in
the passive voice

Active voice is used for most

non-scientific writing. Another
using active voice for the
majority of the sentence makes
your meaning clear for the
readers, and sentences in active
voice are also more concise than
those in the passive voice. This is
because your words are required
to express action in active voice Everyone : yes ma’am
than passive voice.

So it`s clear in Active voice?

So now that we already know

what the active voice, let us
going on to the other types of
voice the passive voice.

When we say passive voice it

used when the subject of the
sentence is receiver of the
action. It means the subject is
just the receiving the action.
It is also have a structure in
passive voice .

Structure formula:
Subject (receiver ) + Helping
Verb+V3( Past participle ) + by
+agent ( doer)

Subject or also known as the

receiver plus helping verb plus
verb three or verb that is in the
past participle form plus by pls
agent or also known as the doer.

I explain this one by one, in our

example.

Let`s have an example.

Identify the subject, the helping

verb, the main verb, and the
agent.

Example:
The ball was kicked by the boy

So in the active voice the subject

is the one who being talk about.
But the passive voice the subject
is the receiver of the action.
Angelo: the ball
So what is the subject in this
sentence? Yes Angelo?

Very good! Because the ball is

the receiver of the action.
Everyone : was
How about the helping verb?

Very good! Because helping

verb, comes before the main
verb. This are the am, is, was,
were, and will. Lysah : kicked

How about the main verb. Yes,

Lysah?
Ella : The boy
Very good is kicked.

How about the agent in this

sentence. Yes Ella?

Very good! It is the boy, because

agent is the person or someone
who performs the action.
Everyone: The receiver ma’am.

Now in this example is our

subject is the doer the receiver?

Very good class! It is just the Everyone : no ma’am

receiver.

Is the ball the one who acted?

Very good because the ball is

only received the action.

That is why the sentence is an

example of passive voice.

Now where are we going to use

the passive voice.

We want to emphasize the

receiver of the action.
When the actor is not
important or interesting.
e.g Our house is being
painted by JMP company
- Our house is being painted
We are talking about general
truth.
e.g Mistakes were made.
We are writing formal or
scientific texts.
e.g Potassium was added and
mixed in.

First If we want to emphasize the

receiver of the action.
Another is when the actor is not
important or interesting.
For example,” our house is
being painted by the JMP
company So in here if you think
that the JMP is not important in
your sentence you can remove
it, so your sentence would be “
our house is being painted “
We can also use passive voice
when we are talking about
general truth like “ mistakes
were made” and lastly we use
passive voice when we are
writing formal or scientific text
for example,” potassium was
added and mixed in.”
Everyone : Yes ma’am
So it`s clear the active and
passive voice?

Great class!
E. Discussion new concept and To understand better the Active
practicing new skills#2 and Passive voice. Let`s us used
this example.

Example: “ The English teacher

reads stories to the student“

So what is the subject here? Angie : The English teacher

Yes, Angie?

Very good! The English teacher.

How about the verb? Yes Clara? Clara: Reads

Very good! Reads stories

So what is the object here? yes

Maris? Maris : Stories

Exactly! So do you think our Everyone : yes ma’am

subject do the Acton?

This means that our subject is

the doer of the action, therefore Loyd: Active voice ma’am.
this sentence is an example of
what? Yes Loyd?

Very good, Loyd!

So another example.

“Stories are read to the

students”
Layka: stories
So what is the subject here?
Yes Lyka?

Very good! The stories. Kira : are ma’am

How about the helping verb?

Yes kira?

Very good! are Lara: sung ma’am

How about the main verb?

Yes lara?
Lina: the English teacher ma’am
Very good!

So what is the agent in this

sentence? Yes lina?

Okay, correct! Everyone: the receiver ma’am

So our subject here is the doer

or the receiver of the action?

Exactly! The subject here is just

only the receiver of the action.

Therefore this sentence is an

example of the what? Everyone: the passive voice.

Very good class!

So it`s clear class? Any question,

clarification?

Okay None.

discussion. Cite the general idea
of today lesson. Anyone, Yes joy? Joy: In our discussion about
passive and active, I learned that
active voice emphasizes the doer
of an action, making sentence
clearer and more direct, while
passive voice shifts the focus to
the receiver of the action ,often
making sentences more indirect .
Active voice is typically preferred
for straightforward and concise
communication, while passive
voice may be used for specific
purposes like highlighting the
receiver of the action or when
the doer is unknown or less
important.
Very good, Joy!
