1. Prayer
“Please stand up for our opening “ Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
prayer” name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we

Amen.”

2. Greetings

today?” “Good morning ma’am! We’re good ma’am.”
3. Checking of Attendance
“Great. Before we start let’s
check your attendance.”
(Respond if present or absent)
(Calling everybody’s surname)
(Draw a timeline in the board and ask
what the day today is and write it in
the middle)

“What is the day today class?”

“Monday!”

“What is the day yesterday?”

“Sunday!”

(write in the left side of the timeline)

“How about the day tomorrow?” “Tuesday!”
(write the day at the right side of the
timeline)
“Look at the timeline. Which among
today, yesterday, and tomorrow already
happened.” “Yesterday ma’am”
“That’s right! So what we did yesterday
is all in the past. In the timeline,
yesterday is in the past, today is
present and tomorrow is the future.
Aside from yesterday, there are also
last week, last year, last weekend,
before class, winter vacation, etc which
is considered times in the past.”
“Do you already have an idea what we
are going to talk about?”
“About past”

“Can you tell us what is the meaning of

past?” “Past is what already happened ma’am”

“Yes that’s right, what we are going to

talk about today is the simple past
tense.”
“Simple past tense shows that you
are talking about something that has
already happened.
The simple past is used to describe an
action that occurred and was
completed in the past. The simple past
is formed by adding –ed to the base
form of the verb
(Write some regular verbs on the board)
like
 watch
 play
 walk
 talk
 cook
and show students how to change into
the past tense by adding ‘ed’. Ask
students to repeat after you and
practice saying each past tense verb.)

“Repeat after me watched, played,

walked, talked, cooked” “watched, played, walked, talked,
cooked”
B. Motivation
“Good now let’s have some group
activity. Count number 1-5 starts here” (start counting)
“Now that you have your own group,
gather with your groupmates.
Group 1 in the left,
2 in the right, (Gathering groupmates)
3 in the middle,
four and five at the back”
“Please don’t be too loud, I will deduct
points on the loudest group.”
“So we will have a game, which is the
guessing game”
“Just select who will answer on every
round”
“Do we need to select our leader
“So the game will be the past tense ma’am?”
guessing game. I will show you the

regular verb and you will tell me what
the past tense of that word is. The

get the point. Write it on a piece of
paper.”

base form of the verb. For regular
verbs, add -ed to the root form of the
verb (or just -d if the root form already
ends in an e) for example watch, you’ll
just add /ed/ at the end of it. Another
example is type, since it already ends
with ‘e’ you just need to add ‘d’ at the
end of it.
But for irregular verbs which we
already encounter in the activity we
had earlier, it somehow get more
complicated.
The simple past tense of some
irregular verbs looks exactly like the
root form for example put is also put,
cut is also cut in its past tense, set is
set cost is also cost, and hit is also hit.
For other irregular verbs, including the
verb to be, the simple past forms are
more erratic for example see is saw
build is built go is went do is did rise is
rose am/is/are is was/were. The good
news is that verbs in the simple past
tense (except for the verb to be) don’t
need to agree in number with their
subjects.
“Ok let’s see if you really understand
our topic for today”

select your leaders. This activity is
called Mystery Box. Each team will
then take turns in answering the
question (there are 10 questions). After
each question, students must make
their own past tense sentence using
the verb provided. Then, the team must
choose to keep the box, or give the box
to the other team. Inside the box is
either plus points (e.g. +10) or minus
points (-10).
At the end of the game, the team with
the most points is the winner.”
“The first question is …
What did you do during vacation Group
1?” (Go, Went)
“Next question is for Group 2, the
question is
