Before we proceed to our lesson, who can
recall our last discussion? - Our last topic is about the Characteristics of
Yes, jose light.
Very good.
Who can give me the definition of light and a
light wave? - Light is a transverse electromagnetic wave
Yes, maricar that belongs to electromagnetic spectrum. And
Exactly light waves are transverse waves and is both
electric and magnetic in nature
Exactly

What part of electromagnetic spectrum are

not visible in our naked eyes but they can
feel as heat? - Infrared rays, Sir

How about the part of electromagnetic

spectrum that can be seen by our naked eyes? - Visible light, Sir

That's right

C. Establishing the purpose for the lesson

Before we proceed on our lesson, let's have

transfer. Answer the guide questions below.
Heat's Everywhere by: Princess C. Bagaforo
Heat that keeps our days warm Can be
transferred in three ways Conduction,
convection, radiation All are in motion Heat
that flows from hot object to cold object Is a
natural process of heat effect As temperature is
to hotness or coldness of an object Thermal
energy is to temperature differences between
objects Heat affects you in so many ways From
the warmth of the fireplace and Light of the sun
that strikes you in every ways All are in motion
due to heat's radiation Heat that is hard to beat
Can be carried from place to place without
retreat When warm air and cold air compete All
fluids and gases are in motion due to
convection of heat Heat can be transferred
through direct contact of a material Is a process
which is essential Conductor is to metal
objects, as insulator is to plastic objects All are
in motion due to heat's conduction

D. Presenting examples/instances for the new lesson

Guide Questions:
1. What are the three methods of heat
transfer stated in the poem? - The conduction, convection and radiation,
Sir
2. What is 'heat' as stated in the poem? - Heat affects our lives in different ways, from
the sun rays that strikes through our skin and
from the warm that we feel in the fireplace
3. How do you differentiate heat from - Heat can be transferred through direct
temperature? contact and is the passage of thermal energy
and temperature is an object property.
4. How does heat flow on materials having - The heat that flow from a hot object to a cold
different temperatures? object is a natural process or way of heat
energy, the temperature is the hotness or
coldness of an object and the thermal energy is
the temperature difference between the objects.

Class based on the poem that we have read,

what do you think is our topic today? - Our topic for today is about heat transfer,

Excellent!

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

Based on the activity, Let’s have to learn
more about the Heat and the methods of heat
transfer.

Kindly read the definiton of heat, ms. Jesriell

- Heat is an energy that is transferred from one

object to another object due to the difference in
What do you think is heat transfer then?
their temperature. When energy is
Yes, Jay transformed, such as thermal energy, heat is
always produced.
Very good! -is related to change in temperature, it is the
And we also observe that heat process in which heat is being transferred from
transfer have three methods and what are one object to another.
they?
Excellent! - The three methods of heat transfer are
conduction,
convection and radiation

F. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

We have here the three methods of heat
transfer, can anyone connect the dot from
the column A and the column B? Column B
Column A •absence of matter
-Conduction• •direct contact
-Convection• •heated fluid
-Radiation•

Have you ever experienced holding a cup of

hot coffee? What did you feel? - Yes, Sir!
I felt heat was being transferred in my heat as i
hold the cup.
Exactly and what do you think is the reason
why you felt heat? - because the heat coming for the cup travels to
your hand and that's why you felt the heat, Sir
Class, can anyone of you give me another
example of conduction? Another example is when cooking and using a
stainless soup laddle, heat is transferred from
the soup hot pot through the soup laddle

What do you think is the reason why heat

was easily transferred to the stainless soup
laddle? - heat is easily transferred.from.the stainless
Very good, and that is what we call the soup laddle because they are good conductors
thermal conduction. of heat.
Class what do you think are the examples of
thermal conductors? - The copper, iron, aluminum, steel are
Yes, tyra example of good conductors, Sir
Excellent!

What if you use plastic soup laddle? Do you

think heat will still transfer? Why or Why not? - No, Ma'am. Because wood, rubber, plastic are
And that is what we call, the thermal insulators. poor insulators of heat.
Exactly! Yes, Sir
Have you ever wondered why some utensils
have handles that are made of wood or
plastic? - Wood and plastic being thermal insulators,
Very good! reduces the heat flowing from the food being
cooked to the utensils and finally to the person
cooking the food.

Let’s proceed to the second method of heat

transfer.

What is Convection?
- Convection is the process in which heat is
carried from place to place by the bulk
Does hot air balloon an example of convection? movement of a fluid against its surroundings.
- Yes, Sir
Can you explain the reason ms. Jeralyn
- Convection happens in the hot air balloon,
because as gases heated, they warm, expand
Kindly read what's written on the board, mr. and rise, Sir
Joey - The convection is inside the balloon. The hot
air rises and as the balloon fills with hot air the
cold, dense air is pushed out. Soon the balloon
is less dense than the air around it on the
outside and that's when you get lift!
And this cycle on which make the hot air
balloon or the heated fluid rises and sinks is
called Convection Current
Let's proceed to the third method of heat
transfer which is the radiation

Base on the definition given, Can you give

one example of radiation, Ms. shiela?
- Radiation on the other hand, is a method of
Very good example. heat transfer in the absence of matter or
through space
The radiation coming
from the sun is the most common radiation - one of the examples of radiation is when we
that we experience everyday stay
under the sun, our body feels hot because it
absorbs
energy from the sun

G. Developing Mastery

H. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

As a students, what are the examples of
heat transfer that you experience everyday? -Ironing clothes Ma'am. (Conduction)
- boiling water (Convection)
- heating a pizza in the oven (radiation)
Very good!

I. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

What are the three methods of heat transfer? - Conduction, convection and radiation.

KEY CONCEPT:
Heat is an energy that is transferred from one
object to another object due to the difference in
their temperature. When energy is
transformed, such as
thermal energy, heat is always produced.
Conduction takes place between objects that
are in contact with each other. The energy is
transferred through particles that are close or
in contact with each other but it is dominant in
solids only. Convection is the process in which
heat is carried from place to place by the bulk
movement of a fluid against
its surroundings. Radiation is a method of heat
transfer in the absence of matter or through
space. Thermal conductors are good conductor
of heat. Thermal insulators are poor conductor
of heat

J. Evaluating learning
Direction: What type of heat transfer takes Energy is transferred between the earths's
