As I mentioned in detail on our class
Facebook page, I am planning an extra
special last day of school before break. I
will be turning our classroom into the
train car of the Polar Express the night
before. The Polar Express will pull out of
the station at 8:30 sharp! Bring your
cameras! I am hiring a train conductor to
stand at the entry and collect tickets from
the kids. We will have yummy treats and
re-enact the movie as we view it from the
seats of the train car. Send your
campers in their pajamas, just as the kids
aboard the Polar Express wore. (They will
just think were having a Pajama Day.
Keep the magic and dont mention
anything between now and then about
the Polar Express.) Tickets will come
home the night before. Then you can tell
them. Imagine their excitement!!

In order to prepare your campers for the

requirements of next year, we need to end
the grace period of allowing reversals.
Therefore, if the letters on a spelling test
are reversed or improperly capitalized,
that word must be marked wrong. The
same is true of numbers on any math
tests, quizzes, or number writing
assessments. If you have any questions,
please see me.

Upon returning from Christmas Break, students
will again be taking their NWEA tests in the
computer lab. One tool I have found to show
success on the NWEA is ScootPad. It is
Common Core aligned (just like our math
centers are) and many of the question formats
are similar to that of ScootPad. In addition,
ScootPad offers WAY more content than I ever
could sending home math dittos/spelling
worksheets. It actually grows with your camper
so s/he wont get bored and stays with a skill
s/he has trouble with until mastery. IF YOU DO
NOT HAVE TECH or INTERNET available to
your child, contact me. I am free before school
and already have a few students coming in for
the extra support. Reflex is a nice tool. Doing
yellow or orange fluency cards are also great
tools. ScootPad is so much more, though. Log
on tonight for practice with this weeks spelling
words, math concepts, and more!!
