ASSESSMENT TASK: Explain briefly concepts of each idea (codes/convention, format &
audiences) then give specific example in reality where the following elements were present.

Codes and Conventions

• All media messages are constructed using a particular set of codes and conventions.
Codes are systems of signs that when put together create meaning.
• Conventions are generally established and accepted ways of doing something.
• To put it simply, code are the figures and materials while convention is how we use it or
act on it.
Example(s):
- Different tools are used for media, they range from technical, written and symbolic
gears that help construct or suggest meaning in different aspects of media. Media
code rang from many things, though most used right now are the use of camera,
acting, setting, mise en scene, editing, lightning, sound, special effects, typography,
color, visual composition, text and graphics which all mainly fall on the technological
factor of media codes. In terms of reality, we often use these tools especially when
capturing memories or creating creative outputs in school.

Format
 In simplest terms, they are the organization of information according to certain
specifications or standards in accordance to what is needed.
 They are templates that provide the working and provisional structures of media and
various informative texts.
Example(s)
- An example that can be used of format would be the content we watch in shows in
our daily lives. Things like news that not only applies to the elderly watch but as
teenagers who tune along to broadcast in order to know what’s happening around us.

Audiences
 In media, the audience is any group of people who receive a media text, and not just
people who are together in the same place.
 They receive the text via a media carrier such as a newspaper or magazine, television,
DVD, radio or as the most efficient one in this generation, the internet.
Example(s):
- 2 Kinds : Traditional and Modern Audiences
- 4 Types: Friendly, Apathetic, Uninformed and Hostile
- As the example suggests, a simple example of audience would be us, ourselves for we
are people who have different perspectives on a given topic. We criticize and judge
things like actions and even through media in terms of content sharing and posts.
