SINGING CONTEST MECHANICS

(Popular Music Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet and Ilocano Music Singing Contests)

A. Participants must be currently enrolled in the college they represent;

B. Each college must have


 two (2) representatives for the vocal solo;
 two (2) pairs of artists for the vocal duet (regardless of gender); and
 two (2) representatives for the Ilocano vocal duet.

C. Each contestant/student must represent only one (1) singing event. Representing the team in two
or more singing events is not allowed. Violation of this rule means disqualification;

D. Each college/team must send to the organizers the collated copy of each participant’s enrollment
form on or before 5:00 PM of November 25, 2020 to jonathanpaguirigan@gmail.com;

E. The competition will undergo three (2) phases: elimination and finals;

1. Elimination Round (November 28, 2020 @ 1:00 PM)

a. Artists are given the freedom to select the song of their choice;
b. Only canned music (minus one) is allowed. No live accompaniment;
c. Video entry specifications:
 Frame orientation must be landscape;
 Use of digital effects is not allowed;
 Voice and sound must be clear and distinct;
 1080p resolution;
 mp4 format;
 60 or 30 fps;

d. Deadline of submission of video recorded entry is on November 26 (Friday) at 1:00 P.M


at jonathanpaguirigan@gmail.com;

e. The top 6 artists for the vocal solo and the top 3 pairs of artists for the vocal duet who
garnered the highest scores will move to the final round.

2. Final Round (December 7, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the NWU Students Center)

a. Artists must select a song of their choice;


b. Only canned music (minus one) is allowed. No live accompaniment;
c. Competition will be held LIVE at the Student Center to be broadcast through a live feed
via NWU Facebook page;

F. Deadline of submission of video-recorded entries is on November 26, 2020 at 5:00 PM to the


above named email add;
G. Online judging: presentation and judging of pre-recorded entries will held via Live
Streaming through NWU official page/s on November 28, 2020 at 1:00 PM;

H. Announcement/Posting of finalist is on November 30 at 5:00 PM via official FB pages of


Northwestern University;

I. Criteria for Judging are as follows:

Voice Quality 25%


Diction, Timing and Dynamics 25%
Musicality 20%
Interpretation of the Song 20%
Overall Performance and Stage Presence 10%
Total 100%

J. Grand Finals will be held LIVE on December 7, 2020 from 1:00 to 3:30 PM at the student center;

K. During the finals, the following are the only people allowed inside the venue:

6 popular music vocal solo finalists; 6 Ilocano vocal solo finalists, 6 vocal duet finalists, 3 judges,
a representative from each team (7), 3 teachers-in-charge, 2 SSC officers, 2 The Review staff, 1
program host, 2 technical staff, and 3 reserved slots for administrators/intramurals organizing
committee members coming up with the total of 41 persons inside the venue.

L. Everyone is advised to strictly follow the safety and health protocols provided by the Intramural
2020 organizing committee;

M. Participants from outside Ilocos Norte must submit the necessary and required documents as per
IATF health and safety guidelines.

N. Said participants must submit the said requirements in advance. Deadline of submission is on or
before December 2, 2020 at 5:00 PM to jonathanpaguirigan@gmail.com.

O. The top 3 entries in each of the contested events who garnered the highest scores will be chosen
as winners and will be ranked as Champion, First Runner-Up and Second Runner-up,
respectively;

P. Decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.

FOLK AND MODERN DANCE COMPETITION


MECHANICS AND GUIDELINES

MECHANICS

1. Participants must be bonafide students of the college/team they represent;


2. Only one (1) entry from each team/college is allowed;
3. Each group must consist of the following
 Folk Dance 6 members
 Modern dance 5-8 members;
4. Each college/team must send to the organizers the collated copy of each participant’s enrollment
form on or before 5:00 PM of November 25, 2020 to jonathanpaguirigan@gmail.com;
5. The folk and modern dance competitions shall undergo two (2) stages: the elimination and the
final stage;

For the elimination round (November 28, 2020; 1:00 PM):

a. Each group must submit a video-recorded “dance hall” presentation;

b. Dance presentation must be 3-5 minutes of music of their choice;

c. Video entry specifications:


 Frame orientation must be portrait;
 Provision of digital effects is allowed provided it will not hinder the relevant aspects
of the dance;
 Dance routines must be distinct and visible
 1080p resolution;
 mp4 format;
 60 or 30 fps;

d. Deadline of submission of entries is on November 26, 2020 at 1:00 PM to the above


named email add;

e. Online judging: presentation and judging of pre-recorded entries will held via Live
Streaming through NWU official pages on November 28, 2020 at 1:00 PM;

f. Announcement/Posting of finalist is on November 30 at 5:00 PM via Official FB Pages


of Northwestern University;

g. Top 3 groups in each of the contested events who garnered the highest scores will
advance to the finals where they will be competing live for the championship.

For the final round (December 7, 2020 2 3:00-5:00 PM; Students Center):
a. Dance presentation must be 3-5 minutes;
b. Performers in the first round must also be the performers in the final round;
c. The scores during the elimination round will be disregarded;
d. Properties are allowed. However, the use of combustible, sharp edges, pointed or any
harmful materials are prohibited;
e. Attire may include accessories such as hats, scarves, caps, gloves, jewelry, etc.
Removing pieces of clothing during the performance is permitted provided it is not
offensive or out of character.
f. Body/face oils or paints/other substances applied to the body or clothing that may
affect the clean dry surface of the stage and may affect the safety of other competitors
are prohibited.
g. All costume malfunction resulting team members being exposed are grounds for the
deductions of 2 points. Please make sure to have dress rehearsals prior to competition
to work out any costume problems.
h. The competition music must not contain inappropriate, lewd, or offensive language.
i. Crews’ competition music must be the only piece of music and recorded on a flash
drive.
j. Music must be submitted before the program begins;
k. Order of performances will be determined by the event organizer via drawing of lots.
l. Winners will be ranked as Champion, First Runner-Up and Second Runner-up;
m. Decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.

6. All members of the crew must constantly wear face mask and face shield while they are inside the
campus and during performance;

7. During the finals, the following are the only people allowed inside the venue:

Folk Dance Competition (3:30 PM-4:15 PM):

18 folk dance finalists, 3 judges, a representative from each team (7), 3 teachers-in-charge, 2 SSC
officers, 2 The Review staff, 1 program host, 2 technical staff, and 3 reserved slots for
administrators/intramurals organizing committee members coming up with the total of 41 persons
inside the venue.

Modern Dance Competition (4:15 PM-5:00 PM):

15-24 modern dance finalists, 3 judges, a representative from each team (7), 3 teachers-in-charge,
2 SSC officers, 2 The Review staff, 1 program host, 2 technical staff, and 3 reserved slots for
administrators/intramurals organizing committee members coming up with the total of 38-45
persons inside the venue.

8. Participants from outside Ilocos Norte must submit the necessary and required documents as per
IATF health and safety guidelines.

9. Said participants must submit the said requirements in advance. Deadline of submission is on or
before December 2, 2020 at 5:00 PM to jonathanpaguirigan@gmail.com.

10. EXTRAORDINARYCIRCUMSTANCES

An extraordinary circumstance is an occurrence beyond the control of a team that affects


their ability to perform at the beginning or any time in a routine. An extraordinary circumstance is
not limited to the examples listed below and may be declared at the discretion of the event
organizers and/or judges.

For instance:

a) Incorrect music is played or cued.


b) Music problems due to equipment malfunction.
c) Disturbances caused by general equipment failure, i.e., lighting, stage, venue, or sound
system.
d) The introduction of a foreign object or disturbance into the performance area, before
or during a performance, by an individual or means other than the team.

1. In case the routine is stopped by an extraordinary circumstance, the event organizers and/or
judges will review the situation, and upon confirming a decision and correcting the problem, the
team will be re-introduced, and will be allowed to re-start their routine.
2. Claim of an extraordinary circumstance presented by the groups AFTER the routine has been
performed will not be accepted or reviewed.

MEDICAL ATTENTION

1. It is the responsibility of the group members, manager, or choreographer to report a


group member’s injury or illness to the event organizers.

2. If at any time, prior to or during competition, a group member becomes ill or injured,
or his/her physical or emotional condition is at risk by participating, he/she may be
declared ineligible to compete, and may be disqualified from the competition. The event
organizers reserve the right to withdraw any competitor who appears to have such
serious disability or injury or needs medical attention or even those with COVID19
symptoms.

3. The event organizers reserve the right to request the submission of a physician’s
written authorization for a group member that is deemed medically or emotionally at risk
by the event organizers, to compete.

11. JUDGING CRITERIA

The judges will score the teams according to the judging criteria on a 100 point system.

1. OVERALL EFFECT (20 pts)

Confidence/Showmanship, Intensity, and Projection (5%)

- Team’s ability to exhibit a dynamic and energetic routine that leaves a lasting impression on
the judges and the audience. Appropriateness of music, costume, choreography. Projection of the
crew members is consistently strong throughout entire routine with an uninterrupted display of
confidence measured by facial expression, eye contact, and body movement. The crew members
should perform with enthusiasm, passion, and a natural ability to “sell it” on stage.

Entertainment Value/Crowd Appeal (5%)

- Ability to evoke feeling from an audience through use of high energy, showmanship, genuine
expression, and emotion.

Street Presence/Attire (10%)


- This is the capability of the crew members to demonstrate an authentic and uninhibited
representation of hip hop dance. Street presence includes attitude, energy, posture, and street
style. Clothing and accessories worn should represent and reflect the real character and natural
style of the urban street environment with a unique look that sets the crew apart. Crew members
do not have to be identically dressed or in a uniform, individuality of dress is encouraged. Crews
may wear stylized clothing representing their routine’s theme. Theatrical costumes are not
typical of the urban street (ex. Storybook characters, animals, Halloween costumes, etc.), and are
not recommended.

2. CHOREOGRAPHY (40 pts)

Creativity (15%)

- Choreographing and presenting the routine in a fresh, unique way with signature moves that
are original and creative. Story, transitions, music editing, clothing, and a unique look and style
that stands out from other routines.

Variety of Dance Styles (10%)

- A minimum of three (3) street dance, a minimum of three (3) folk dance, and a minimum a
minimum of (3) retro dance of the 70s and 80s must be performed in a routine to receive variety
points. The more styles a crew includes and performs correctly in the routine, the higher the
variety score will be. Crews should include a broad selection of street dance styles selected from
the list below without excessive use of the same move or patterns. A varied range of styles
should be shown in the choreography of arm, leg, and body movements.

Difficulty (10%)

- Use of intricate and challenging skills/movement including various jumps, stunts, floor work,
and signature moves.

Formations and Transitions (5%)

- Use of inventive formations and creative ways to move from one formation to another,
allowing for seamless changes of positions.

3. TECHNIQUE Execution/Clarity of Movement (40%)

Placement and Control (10%)

- The crew must maintain control of the speed, direction, momentum, and body placement
throughout the routine. Proper control and correct placement/alignment of the body and ability to
exhibit full extension and strength of movement.

Musicality (5%)

- Performance and choreography corresponding to timing and music usage and the crew’s ability
to perform simultaneously to the music.
Group Execution (10 pts) - Proper execution and understanding of hiphop styles. Movements
must be true to the authentic hip hop dance style, with understanding of the foundation and
origin of hip hop.

Synchronization/Timing (10%)

- The movements of the crew members are performed in sync; the range of movement, speed,
timing and execution of moves are performed by all members in unison. Peel off or canon
movements are allowable.

Spacing (5%) The ability of the team to gauge and position themselves correctly, with correct
distances between each other in and throughout all formations.

TOTAL POINTS: 1OO % *Protests are prohibited and will not be accepted regarding any score
or result of a decision.
