B. Lesson Proper

1. Motivation
Before we finally start our new lesson, Let’ s have a
story

My friend Ann invited me to her birthday party.

As I arrived, my friend shared her problem.

I need to become Marites to know what is the

problem.

I asked Ann what is her problem.

ANN replied
There were 25 people invited but suddenly it
increased by 14, now the I don’t know what is the
total number of visitors.

So, I help Ann to solve her problem. I analyze the

given problem and came up with a mathematical
sentence.

25 increased by 14 is the total number of visitor that

were invited.

What is the mathematical sentence of 25 increased

by 14 is the total number of visitor that were 25+14=x ma’am.
invited?

Very good!

Using the numerical translation, we can now find the 25+14=x

total number of visitors of Ann 25+14=39
There are 39 people in the party.

Ann thank me for helping her and she told me to eat.

So, I go to table and see lots of food. I see chocolate

square cake. I was curious what is the size of the
cake per slice. If there are 16 pieces of slice what is
the measure of each cake?

I come up with a mathematical phrase, 4 multiplied

by a number is 16.
4. x=16 ma’am.
What is the mathematical translation of the 4
multiplied by a number is 16.

Using the numerical translation, what is the 4. x=16

measurement of the piece of cake? 4. x 16
=
4 4
x=4
The size of the piece of cake is 4 ma’am.

I was satisfied, so I began to eat.

After eating, there is a game.

And the game is called THE BIG KITE!

I joined the game.

In this game we are task to make a BIG KITE and the

sized should be 36 inches but the problem is we
don’t know what are the measurement of the other
sides, if the only given is 8 inches.

I came up with a mathematical translation.

2 side of the head of the kite is 16 inches and twice
the sum of a number and 2 equal to 36. 16+2(x +2)=36 ma’am.

What is the mathematical sentence?

Using the numerical sentence what is the missing 16+2( x +2)=36

part of the kite? 16+2 x+ 4=36
20+2 x=36
2 x=36−20
2 x=16
2 x 16
=
2 2
x=8
Substitute x to the missing part of the kite ma’am.
Now that we have the value of x, what will be the
next thing to do?

( x +2) ma’am.
What is the missing part?

What is the measure of the missing side of the kite?

At the end, we are the winners!

I enjoyed Ann’s birthday celebration

Those mathematical word presented have a

connection to our topic today and I hope it energized
you all.

2. Presentation
Our topic for today ma’am is all about polygon

3. Discussion

What are the different polygon that can you know

their formula in finding perimeter?
P=2 L+2 W is the formula for rectangle ma’am.
What is the formula for rectangle?
Yes, you are correct!
The formula for square is P=4 S ma’am
What is the formula for square?
Very good! The formula for triangle is P=a+b+ c ma’am.

What is the formula for triangle?

That’s correct! Yes ma’am.

So in other words, finding perimeter is all about the

total measurement of its side.

Understanding the concept or remembering the

formula of perimeter or area of basic geometric
shapes such as square, triangle and trapezoid could
help us easily solve geometry problems. Can you
remember them?

Okay let’s try to solve this.

The three sides of a triangle equal 78 cm the

Thank you Rhapael.

A triangle has three sides ma’am
How many side triangle has?

What is the other side? x +2 be the third side of the triangle ma’am.
How about the other the last side?

Who wants to illustrate the measures of the x+1 x+2

triangle?

Add all sides to get the perimeter of the triangle

What equation to used in getting perimeter of ma’am.
triangle?
x + x+1+ x +2 ma’am.
And it will become?

The length of the sides of the triangle are

consecutive integers and its perimeter is 78.
x + x+1+ x +2=78 ma’am.
What is now our new equation?
Solution:
Okay let’s simplify.
x + x+1+ x +2=78
How many x do we have? 3x ma’am.
3 x+ 3=78 ----Combine like terms

Very good!
We are going to transpose ma’am.
To find the value of x what are we going to do the 3 x=78−3
constant?
3x=75 Divide both sides by 3
x=25

Since x represents the shortest side of the

Triangle, therefore the length of the shortest side is
Excellent! 25 cm.

Now let’s verify if our answer is correct

To check were going to substitute the value of x, x + x+1+ x +2=78

which is 25. 25+25+1+25+ 2=78
78=78
That’s great!

Do you understand? Yes ma’am

Let us try another

The perimeter of an isosceles trapezoid is 91cm.
Kindly read the problem, Angel Using the figure below find the length of the
missing side.

(2x + 2) cm

x cm

37 cm

Since the sides are already indicated we could

continue with needed equation.

To get the perimeter what should we do?

The perimeter is the sum of all the sides so we

need to add all the sides ma’am.
What is our equation?
Therefore, the equation will be
2 x+2+ x +37+ x =91 ma’am.
Let’s simplify.
2 x+2+ x +37+ x =91
4 x+39=91 Let’s Combine like terms ma’am.
4 x−91−39 transpose 39 ma’am
¿ 4 x−52 Divide both sides of the equation by 4
x=13
What is now our answer?
Very good!
The length of the unknown sides are:
Okay, let’s do the checking x=13 cm

2 ( 13 ) +2+ ( 13 ) +37+13=91
You are correct!
Very good!

Another example,

The width of the rectangle is given and it is ? the rectangle?
What is our equation?
2m ma’am.
