MEASUREMENT AND TEST EQUIPMENT Date 02-09-2020

13.0 CALIBRATION OF EXAMINATION, MEASUREMENT AND TEST EQUIPMENT

13.1 All examination, measurement and test equipment used to fulfill applicable
Code requirements shall be calibrated in accordance with ‘ASY Examination,
Measurement and Test Equipment Calibration Procedure QA 18.

13.2 Equipment which requires calibration shall be permanently identified by

marking the item or its container with a unique serial number identifiable to
the equipment.

13.3 The QSD is responsible for ensuring that equipment is maintained in

calibration. Equipment not in calibration shall be tagged: “NOT CALIBRATED
- DO NOT USE”.

13.4 Calibration may be performed by an approved testing laboratory which

provides certified records of calibration and having suitable standards whose
accuracy is traceable to National or International Standards. The QSD is
responsible for review of calibration records to comply with ‘ASY’ and Code
requirements.

13.5 Calibration of equipment is recorded in "Master List of Calibrated Equipment"

(Exhibit QA 18). The frequency of calibration and accuracy are determined
from the equipment manufacturer's recommendations, or from the experience
with the equipment, unless specified by Code, National or International
standards.

13.6 Status of Calibrated items shall be identified through the use of a "Calibration
Decal" (Exhibit QA 24) attached to the item or to its container if the item is too
small for the decal to be attached. The Calibration Decal shall list the date
calibrated, the date calibration is due, the agency/person that performed the
calibration and the equipment identification number.

13.7 Calibration records, including those of subcontractors, shall be made

available to the Authorized Inspector.

13.8 Pressure gauges used for hydrostatic, pneumatic or proof testing are
calibrated against dead weight tester or calibrated master gauge.

13.9 Impact test temperature measuring instruments shall be calibrated every six
months. Impact testing machines shall be calibrated every 12 months.

13.10 Densitometer used by the NDT department shall be calibrated using

calibrated step wedge film by Level-II or III. The calibration Step wedge film
shall be traceable to National Standards step tablet and calibrated annually.
Densitometer shall be calibrated every three months, as specified by the Code
in ASME Section V, Article-2, and Para T-262.1.

13.11 Baking / Holding ovens shall be calibrated for proper working condition of
temperature indicators.

13.12 Hand quivers shall be verified for its function and temperature (65°C
minimum).

13.13 Welding machines shall be verified for current and voltage display accuracy
using calibrated gauges.

13.14 Equipment Calibration frequency and tolerances are detailed in Calibration

Procedure QA 18.

13.15 Discrepant Measurement and Test Equipment

13.15.1 All items checked with discrepant equipment are non-conforming,

and an NCR shall be issued as per Section 8.0(Correction of
Nonconformities). QSD shall evaluate the implication of such
defective equipment in respect of Code acceptance of item on which
the discrepant equipment has been used. Care shall be taken for
all critical measurements/tests to use multiple gauges or gauge
with higher accuracy.
13.15.2 Traceability of equipment used is maintained by recording serial
number of equipment used on the examination and inspection
records.
