II. Project Summary:

LIBROrary in a Box Project is the adaptation version of the Gugma sa

Pagbasa Project of Bulak Elementary School which starred from 2018-

2020 when in-face learning was yet applicable. However, with the havoc

made by the Covid 19 Pandemic to the usual educational setting, a

1
turnaround project must be initiated to continue educating young minds of

Bulak Elementary School despite the introduction of distance learning

modalities to combat the ongoing disease while everyone awaits concrete

solutions for in-face learning to happen.

In Bulak Elementary School, a considerable number of non-readers

and non-numerates exist primarily because the children enrolled in this

school are yet starting their formative years in their academic journey.

Though the situation is understandable, it would pose a great challenge for

the school leader and teachers to contest the situation to higher ground.

With the advent of massive changes in the academic environment,

reading and learning number concepts are basic skills that need to be

developed in young minds for them to thrive in the spiraling educational

system. These two skills are lifesavers of today’s generation because it

fuels them to gain more in life by capacitating themselves with the basic

skills of reading and numeracy. Relatively, we need professional and well-

trained teachers to be able to see to it that these basic skills are inculcated

in the minds of the children. However, the pandemic situation does not

permit direct contact between the teacher and the children due to health

measures set by the health department of this country, the school must

navigate other means to concretize these ideals.

The current situation led to the decision of creating an academic home

environment where these children live and study in the meantime while the

access to physical school is restricted. LIBROrary in a Box Project was

then conceptualized to put up a class home where these children live. L-

envisioned to put up a sense of personal library at home amid the

challenges of a pandemic to sustain the learners’ literacy and numeracy

skills of Bulak Elementary School. The box is utilized by the learners

where the learning resources from the school are brought home by their

home learning facilitators. It includes the printed modules which is the

main facility for learning, supplementary books to enhance the capacity to

read and mastery of numeracy skills, laminated materials for further

remediation to learners who are academically struggling, and wallpapers

for mastery of nationalistic and school customs. The learners are required

to put up a wall in their homes posting the wallpapers and setting the

LIBROrary box beside their study area.

By doing so, the school anticipates an increment in learners’ academic

performance at the end of the school year with the great partnership with

the home learning facilitators (parents and relatives helping the child to

learn) as front liners in this claim.

III. Project Background

The LIBROrary in a box project is a learning support system to improve

continuously the literacy and numeracy skills of learners of Bulak

Elementary School during these challenging times. Literacy and numeracy

skills help learners to thrive across different learning areas. The project

specifically focuses on literacy development which includes reading and

writing skills. At the same time, it also enables learners to develop

learners’ numeracy skills which focus on enhancing the ability to

3
comprehend and apply mathematical concepts and processes in solving

problems and making decisions that can be applied to real-life scenarios.

IV. Project Objectives

The LIBROrary in a Box project aims to support learning activities for

children during the implementation of the distance learning scheme.

Specifically, it

a. Requires all children to have learning spaces at home while they

develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

b. Expects academic gains in all subject areas by providing learners

with effective learning resources for enhancement.

c. Inspires other learners by showcasing readers and mathematicians

of the week/month on a social media platform.

V. Project Methodology

This section presents the phases of implementation of the project to

achieve its desired goals.
