The maps illustrate an area in 1990 before the construction of a hydroelectric dam, and the same area in 2000
after the dam was constructed.
Overall, it is clear that the area of rare plants and animals which existed in 1990 was destroyed, and that the
villages were relocated south of the dam in 2000.
In 1990, an ancient structure and an area with rare plants and animals were located to the west of the river. On
the east bank of the river, there was irrigated farmland and some villages nearby. However, in 2000 a lake was
created which covered this whole area. The lake was used for sailing and fishing, while a hotel occupied the site
where the villages had been located.
The map for 2000 shows the hydroelectric dam in the mountains south of the lake. On both sides of the river,
there were electricity pylons. The new site for the villages was on the east side of the river, south of the
electricity installations.

The maps compare an Australian beachfront in 1950 and the present.
Overall, it is clear that surf club facilities and a restaurant now form part of the beachfront area. Also, the road
now extends as far as the lighthouse.

In 1950, there was only one car park in the area. That car park is now larger, and another, smaller car park has
replaced the playground. However, the pavilion and dining tables remain in the same place. The road finished
at the car park in 1950, but now it continues to the lighthouse.
While there were two pools of 25 metres in 1950, now there is only one 25 metre pool, and a new 50 metre pool
has taken the place of the other smaller pool. Two surf clubs now occupy part of the beachfront. One club is next
to the 50 metre pool, while the other club is near the lighthouse. Although the area had no restaurant in 1950,
there is now a new restaurant behind the 50 metre pool and one of the surf clubs.

Overall, it is clear that a children’s area and temporary exhibition space has replaced a large exhibition room. A
ramp and a lift now provide access for wheelchair users.
The present day plan shows that the 3 exhibition rooms to the right of the entrance hall remain the same as in
2005. In contrast, to the left of the entrance hall, there is a major change. A temporary exhibition space and
children’s area now replace exhibition room 4 in the 2005 plan.
The reception desk was at the end of the entrance hall in 2005, directly in front of the gallery office. However,
the desk is now in front of the entrance and a vending machine now occupies the place of the gallery office. A
gallery shop replaces the café marked on the 2005 plan. In 2005, there were stairs at the end of the entrance hall,
although now there is also a lift next to the stairs. Near the entrance, a wheelchair ramp is shown on the present
plan.

4. The diagrams below show the water supply system in Australia at present and in future.

Overall, it is clear that in the future water will be recycled after treatment. No water will be discharged into the

At present, water is stored in dams or other facilities. Then, this pure water is sent to households, shops, and
factories. Next, waste water is sent to a water treatment plant, and after cleaning it then enters the river. Storm
water, however, enters the river directly from the city.
In the future, the storage of water in dams or other facilities will continue unchanged, and pure water will be sent
to the same users. However, in contrast to the present system, all water will go to the water treatment plant. It
will then return to supply users as pure water following treatment, and no water will enter the river.

5. The map describes the change of a park from 1980 to now.

There are now three paths within the park, whereas there was only a single path in 1980. The tree at the top
right hand corner of the map remains, although there are now picnic chairs, picnic tables and a barbecue
facility situated near the tree.
In 1980, the pond to the left of the path had benches around it, while nowadays the pond is smaller and the
benches are bigger. At the bottom of the map, there were two flower beds in 1980, one on either side of the
gate. However, these do not exist today. Bushes have replaced one of the flower areas and a playground has
replaced the other flower bed.

6. The plan shows the design of a community centre 10 years ago and now.
Fewer young people do farming work in rural areas. Why? Should young people be aged to do farming
encour work?

next to this area remains unchanged. In the middle of the diagrams, a coffee bar is now located next to the toilet,
replacing the office that was there ten years ago. Above these, there is now a cafe area. This replaces storage
space, and the office which was in the north of the plan ten years ago has now been divided by half, to provide a
new storage area.
By contrast, some areas remain unchanged – the hall in the middle of the layout and, to the east of the diagram,
the kitchen and storage space next to the kitchen. Finally, ten years ago, four small offices were located above
the storage area in the east of the plan, and these have been combined into one large office today.

7. The layout of a student accommodation block in 2010 and the present
Report Plan:

Overall, there are more study bedrooms now compared with 2010, and provision for parking is now available.
In 2010, there were only three study bedrooms. In the present plan, one study bedroom has replaced the living
room in the 2010 diagram, and another study bedroom has been built next to it. This is shown on the top left
corner of the plan. In addition, an en-suite bathroom has now been added to the study bedroom to the right of
the hall, reducing the size of the hall.
There were two garden areas in 2010, but one of these is now a parking area at the side of the hall. One garden
remains, however, at the other side of the block. Although there is no longer a living room, in the present plan
the kitchen is larger than in 2010 and now includes a social area for students. There are no changes to the
entrance.

At Bell Hill Farm in 1976 a storage area for farm machinery such as tractors is shown in the top left corner of the
diagram. To the right of this on the plan, there was a barn for storing corn and other crops. The storage area was
replaced after 2006 by a car park, and multimedia rooms in the environment centre took the place of the barn.
While the road access and the farmhouse remained unchanged, the farmyard behind the farmhouse was
converted to a recreation space for the environment centre. Finally, on the right of the diagram, there were cow
sheds and chickens at Bell Hill Farm. In 2006, this area was used to build housing for students who attended the
environment centre.

9. The diagram shows the proposed town.

access to this square, and these roads all lead to a ring road. Near the centre of town there will be housing and
four recreational areas, three of which will be close to each other.
On the outskirts of the town, outside the ring road, more housing is planned, with just one area for recreation.
This housing will be located separately from two areas which are proposed for industrial purposes. One area for
industry is shown at the top of the diagram, and the other area is shown at the bottom. Roads will separate the
industry from the housing.

10. The diagram shows the changes to Station Street in 1960 and now.

Overall, a supermarket has now replaced a number of small shops which were on the side of the street

is now occupied by a hotel.
A row of 7 shops faced the railway station in 1960, selling meat, bread, toys, books and rental DVDs, together
with a pharmacy and a fish and chips shop. A supermarket with adjacent parking has now taken the place of
these shops, and a cafe has replaced the fish and chips shop.
On the other side of the street, however, there have been fewer changes. The railway station is now slightly
larger, because the public telephones located at the side of the station in 1960 have been removed. In 1960, there
was a grocery store next to the public telephones, but a hotel now occupies this site. Finally, the dry cleaners on
the other side of the railway station is still in the same location.

11. A road system
Report Plan:

The diagrams illustrate a current road system and the future changes which are proposed in order
to lower the accident figures.
Overall, the two main changes will be aimed at improving safety at the major road junctions, by
introducing traffic lights and a roundabout.
At present, there are frequent accidents where Low Lane meets City Road, near the school. It is
planned to install traffic lights to solve this problem. At the intersection of City Road and Forest Road,
accidents also occur frequently in the vicinity of the supermarket. Therefore, the proposal is to build a
roundabout, which will also provide a new replacement access road to the supermarket.
The removal of the road leading from City Road to the supermarket will prevent accidents involving
traffic at the junction of City Road and this connecting road to and from the supermarket. By contrast,
the proposed road system shows no changes to the hazardous junction of Low Lane and Forest Road,
where accidents also often occur at present.

present.
Overall, the number of cinemas has increased over this period, although the car park has been removed.
In 1980, there were only 2 cinemas in the complex, one immediately to the left of the entry and the
other on the right of the diagram. In contrast, there are now 5 cinemas. Cinema 1 has moved further
from the entry, and Cinema 2, located at the top left of the diagram, is smaller than in 1980. In the
current map, Cinemas 3, 4 and 5 are all situated on the right of the entry.
In order to make space for the increased number of cinemas, the car park in the 1980 diagram is absent
from the present map. The location of the toilets remains unchanged, but space has now been made to
the left of the entry for a food and drinks facility and a relaxation room. Immediately to the right of the
entry, the ticket office remains in the same place, but the drinks area in 1980 has now been replaced by
a DVD shop.

13. The layout for the same trade conference

year.
Overall, it is clear that the layout changed in 2010 to provide more seating and more display stands.
In 2009, a refreshments area was located between the main and side entrances to the venue, while a
registration desk stood below the balcony, on the right of the diagram. A year later, the refreshments and
registration facilities changed places, and a lounge area was provided in the balcony.
A conference hall and stage were marked on the left of the plan for 2009, facing the main entrance.
Three meeting rooms were located below the conference hall. However, by 2010, the conference hall
had more seating, but no meeting rooms, and now stood on the bottom right of the diagram, occupying
the space used in 2009 for an exhibition area. Therefore, the exhibition area was moved in 2010 to face
the main entrance, in the space previously used for the conference hall the year before. This exhibition
area was also expanded in 2010, with more display stands added and access to the balcony and
