2 started.

3 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

4 HOST: Our country is blessed with so many land features such as

5 mountains and volcanoes. These features are sources of different

6 minerals and can be used for agriculture and tourism purposes. For

7 example, we have the majestic and world renowned Mayon

8 Volcano.

9 INSERT SFX: “POP-UP SOUND”

10 HOST: Because of its activity, it produces fertile slopes and plains which

11 are used by the locals to grow their crops.

2 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

3 HOST: First question. What do you call the rigid sections of the lithosphere

4 that move as a unit? a. plate (pause) b. trench (pause) c. fault and

5 d. rocks

6 REPEAT first question..

7 HOST: If your answer is letter a then you got the correct answer.

8 HOST: Second question. How many major tectonic plates are there in

9 earth? A.6 (pause) b. 7 (pause) c. 8 and d. 9.

10 REPEAT second question

11 HOST: If your answer is 7 or letter b, then you got it right. For the third and

12 last question, you just have to write letter t if the statement is true

13 and f if false. The plates are gradually moving, as plates move,

14 majority of the formation of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and

15 mountain ranges are happening along the plate boundaries.

16 REPEAT the statement

17 HOST: If your answer is letter T, then you got it right. (insert clap sound)

18 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

19 Host: I hope you understand well our previous topic since it has something

3 INSERT SFX: “BOXING BELL”

4 HOST: For the first movement, move your hands towards each other with

5 palms facing down. (Insert vernacular adlib)

6 INSERT SFX: “APPLAUSE”

7 Now let us do the second movement.

8 INSERT SFX: “BOXING BELL”

9 HOST: For our second movement, put your hands together as our starting

10 position with your palms facing down. Then slowly move your hands

11 apart. (insert vernacular adlib)

12 INSERT SFX: “APPLAUSE” Now let us do the final movement.

13 HOST: This time put your hands side-to-side as our starting position with

14 your palms facing down. Then slowly move one hand forward, and

15 backward for the other hand. Do this to your hands at the same

16 time as if they are sliding past each other. (Insert vernacular adlib)

17 INSERT SFX: “APPLAUSE”

18 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

19 HOST: Do not forget these simple moves because it will help you

20 remember the lesson you will learn today. I hope that is clear grade

21 10 learners

22 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

23 HOST: The movements we have just done are somehow similar to the

24 movements of the cars on a busy road. I know some of you have

25 been to a busy street with a lot of vehicles on their way and have

26 seen them moving in different directions. (PAUSE) Some cars move

3 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

4 HOST: These situations can help illustrate our lesson for today which has

5 something to do with our previous lesson on Plate Tectonics.

6 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

7 HOST: Some of the most dramatic changes in the earth’s crust like

8 mountain ranges, new islands and earthquakes occur along

9 plate boundaries, and along these boundaries are geological

10 events happening. So, for today’s lesson we will discuss the

11 different types of plate boundaries.

12 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

13 HOST: Grade 10 learners, kindly turn to page four of your module and

14 try to examine the map of plate boundaries on figure one.

15 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

16 HOST: The arrows on the map tells the direction of movement of each

17 plate. Each plate is slowly moving relative to each other, causing

18 geologic events to happen along their boundaries.

19 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

20 HOST: With all that’s said, I know you now have your questions popping

21 out on your minds.

22 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

23 HOST: What are the different types of plate boundaries? (PAUSE) What

24 other geologic events could be formed by these types of plate

25 boundaries? (PAUSE)

9 INSERT APPLAUSE SFX

10 HOST: Expect more activities to come up your way as we proceed to our

11 next part of our lesson after this short reminder.

12 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

13 HOST: Plate boundaries are the lines at the edges of the different pieces

14 of the lithosphere. Lithospheric plates are moving due to the convection

15 current in the Earth’s interior. The lithosphere is made of the crust and the

16 upper mantle. There are two types of crusts; the continental crust which is

17 thicker but less dense, and the oceanic crust, which is thinner and denser.

18 Again, we have two types of crust; first is the thicker but less dense

19 continental crust and the other one is the thinner but denser oceanic

20 crust.

21 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

22 HOST: According to the Plate Tectonic Theory, the earth’s lithosphere is

23 consisting of the crust and upper mantle that move slowly and constantly

24 over time. This movement causes the formation of plate boundaries

25 namely: convergent (PAUSE), divergent (PAUSE), and transform fault

26 boundary. I repeat, the three plate boundaries are the convergent,

divergent, and transform fault boundary.

1 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

2 HOST: Let us talk first about convergent plate boundaries (PAUSE).

3 When two tectonic plates move toward each other and collide, they

4 form a convergent plate boundary or also known as destructive

5 plate boundary. Do you still remember the hand movement I let you

6 demonstrate first? That was how a convergent boundary moves. As

7 two plates collide, a collision zone is created. There are three major

8 types of convergent plate boundaries. First, is the continental-

9 continental convergence. This occurs when two continental crusts

10 collide. They buckle and thicken that causes the formation of

11 mountains. Second, is the continental-oceanic collision. When a

12 plate of oceanic crust collides to the continental crust, it subducts or

13 erodes underneath the continental crust, since the oceanic crust is

14 denser than the continental crust. The magma from the melted

15 oceanic crust rises to the surface resulting to volcanoes along the

16 boundary. Lastly, is the oceanic-oceanic collision. It occurs when the

17 older oceanic plate subducts under the younger oceanic plate

18 resulting to melting of the crust and creates an island arc, a long

19 chain of active volcanoes with intense seismic activity. Again, we

20 have three types of convergent collisions; the continental-to-

21 continental convergence, the continental to oceanic convergence,

22 and the oceanic-to-oceanic convergence. (Insert Vernacular adlib)

23 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

24 HOST: The second type of plate boundary is the divergent plate boundary

25 (PAUSE). This is when two plates move away from each other. It is

26 also known as a constructive plate boundary.

Radyo Agusan, Alang sa Kabataan Plate Boundaries

30 Minute Radio Program Episode 1 of 1
DXGP 89.7 July 5, 2022
1 The second hand movement I let you did on the first part was a

2 simulation of divergent boundary. As two plates move apart, it

3 creates a zone of tension and form a gap where molten materials

4 will emerge and solidify forming geologic features such as

5 volcanoes. The separation allows the asthenosphere to rise towards

6 the surface. The most active divergent plate boundaries occur

7 between oceanic plate and this allows for the creation of new

8 ocean floors and mid-ocean ridges. (Insert vernacular adlib)

9 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

10 HOST: The last is the Transform Fault Plate boundary. It is also known as

11 conservative margins. The plates of this boundary slide past each

12 other in a horizontal manner. One great simulation I let you do about

13 this boundary was the last hand movement. In this type of plate

14 boundary, no plate margins are being destroyed or formed, rather it

15 forms mostly the shaking of the ground as earthquakes. Most

16 transform faults are found in the ocean basin and connect in the

17 mid-ocean ridges. Generally, they do not form magma unlike other

18 plate boundaries. The San Andreas Fault in California is an example

19 of a transform Plate boundary. (Insert vernacular adlib)

20 MSC UP FOR 5 SECONDS AND UNDER

21 HOST: So, those are the essential things you need to know about our

22 topic this morning. And to sum it up, let me ask you some questions

23 before we proceed to the next part of our lesson. I hope you are

24 ready (PAUSE)

25 MSC UP FOR 3 SECONDS AND UNDER

26 HOST: What are the three types of plate boundaries? (PAUSE) We have

3 HOST: What are the factors that differ among the three types of plate

4 boundaries? (PAUSE) Great! It is their relative motion (PAUSE),

5 direction (PAUSE), and the geologic features or events formed. It

6 seems that you already have absorbed mostly all of the information

7 we have discussed earlier. By that, I want to give you a virtual,

8 booming round of applause.
