WORSHIP CALENDAR
A longside our funerals and weddings, we have a steady
number of baptisms through the year, I find that encouraging,
Sunday 5th February 4th before Lent because in the Christian faith, we celebrate God’s
unconditional love at the baptism of a child, as a symbol of
Skelton 9.30am Holy Communion God’s divine love and grace, and of his unqualified acceptance

transformed by the realisation of God’s unqualified love.
Newton 6.30pm Evensong with choir That is the great power of the message of Christ. Quite often
that key truth is buried under so much religious dogma that
Sunday 12th February 3rd Before Lent people are confused about what God is about.
The heart and soul of all religion is to love and be loved. The
Bible only gives one definition of God: ‘God is love’. St John
Skelton 9.30am Family Communion writes, ’those who live in love live in God, and God lives in

Newton 11.00am Family Communion When I take a wedding I always remind the couple that God’s

always wants to bless richly and he rejoices in the whole of
the loving human experience. In good times and in bad he
Sunday 19th February 2nd Before Lent will be there for them and he is always accessible.
When I talk to the bereaved, I remind them that God’s love is

that includes death. He also points out that faith, hope and

death.
During Epiphany, we are reminded about how God has

revealed this to us, in so many different ways, but in a special
way, in his son, Jesus. His life shines with God’s love and
Skelton 9.30am All Age Service brightness, and through a very human life.
Shipton 11.00am Family Communion Jesus teaches us that we cannot love God without loving our
Newton 11.00am Holy Communion neighbour, those two commandments come together and
always will. We all need to know God’s love as a practical
reality.
Wednesday 1st March Ash Wednesday None of us loves all the time. It is often hard to love your

Remember that the good news of Christ is, that God knows

love, but God’s love, which is not bounded by time, reaches
Skelton 9.30am Holy Communion out across the universe to every one of us.
Something to celebrate all through the year!
