WORSHIP CALENDAR
A longside our funerals and weddings, we have a steady
number of baptisms through the year, I find that encouraging,

Skelton Walking Group. Our next walk is a moderate 6 miles from
Birstwith on Saturday January 4th followed by a pub lunch. Meet on The

Quiz Night Friday February 10th, 7.30pm, Forest of Galtres Golf Club (by

Skelton Village Trust Speaker Evening Tuesday February 14th at
7.30pm in the Village Hall. "A Gateway to History? York's City Archives" A
presentation by Victoria Hoyle the York City Archivist. Tickets £5 to include
a buffet supper and glass of wine/soft drink will be available from
committee members and the village shop from late January
Yoga Winter Term at Skelton Village Hall, 1.30pm - 3.00pm., for an

Blacksmith’s Arms, Skelton. Quiz Night every Thursday evening from
8.00pm. £1 per person and a prize for the winning team. Also Knit, Stitch

Mobile Library in Skelton. The Mobile Library visits Skelton every two weeks.
As well as borrowing books & audio books, you can update your library card or
York Card, return books from any other York library, & request books to be
brought to Skelton for you to borrow. The library stops in Fairfields Drive from
2.00pm to 2.45pm & Brecksfield from 2.50pm to 4.00pm. Mondays February

School Governors Needed at Skelton Primary School. We are looking to
recruit Volunteer Governors, who have the time, energy & enthusiasm to help
ensure that our wonderful, village school continues to improve. We are seeking
individuals who can work well in a team, are happy to ask questions, listen,
offer ideas & wish to develop their skills. You also may have a background in
Finance/Accounting/Marketing/Human Resources/Training/Education. If you

Skelton Community Primary School The New Breakfast Club (07:30-08:45)

Skelton Village Trust Commemorative Award. Celebrating HM The
Queen's 90th Birthday 2016. An annual award of up to £150 to support the
further education/training of a young person from Skelton. To qualify, your
course should relate to the Trust's interests - heritage, environment,
conservation. Applications giving brief details of your course should be
made by February 28th, in writing to: The Village Trust Committee, c/o
Garden House, The Ryde, The Village, Skelton, YO30 1XY. Grants are at
the discretion of the Committee who will notify successful candidates by

SHIPTON WITH OVERTON NEWS
Shipton Parish Council Meeting, Community Centre Committee Room,
Wednesday February 15th, 7.30pm.
Shipton Community Cafe - every Tuesday at Shipton Space, The
Methodist Chapel, 2pm until 4.30pm. Refreshments, homemade cakes,
fresh produce, tuck shop, gifts and cards. All ages welcome
Shipton By Beningbrough Playground Committee would like to thank
everyone who donated items, baked cakes / biscuits and helped out at the
Community Centre for the Jumble Sale on Jan 14th. We raised just over
£520 towards the new nest swing that is getting built in the Playground in
February. Our community pulled together and worked like a real team,
well done everyone!
Forest of Galtres Primary School Throughout 2017 we will be
supporting 'Sal's Shoes', a charity which distributes good condition, used
shoes directly to children who need them. We have a collection box at the
main entrance so please bring along any outgrown pairs! In 2016 Sal's
Shoes provided footwear for children in orphanages and homes in Bali,
Singapore, Cambodia and Cuba; with some adult footwear going to

Thank you to everybody who supported the ‘Mammals Quiz’ by either
buying one or selling them. Following a draw to choose the winner, the
quiz was won by Helen Ainsworth from Ellerton, just south of York.
Particular thanks to the Dawnay Arms, Shipton; Brooke’s; Skelton Post
Office; Linton stores & to Alan Easterbrook who all helped sell quizzes. In
total £403 was raised for Shipton Church funds. Thank you.
Middleton School Foundation. Applications are invited for grants offered
from this Charity. Grants are available to persons under the age of 25 &
who live, or whose parents live, in the Parishes of Shipton or Overton.
Grants are available for costs associated with academic or vocational
training. Grants are at the discretion of Trustees & applications will not be
considered for expenditure incurred more than six months prior to the date
of application. Applications must include full details of costs incurred,
proof of expenditure, name, address, date of birth & an email address for
any queries. Parents or guardians may apply on behalf of persons aged
