What are the things that can make objects move?
Show different types of magnets.

Can you describe each of these magnets?
What name is given to each type?
What does a magnet do?
Let the pupils do the activity in small groups composed of 5 members each.
Give the groups 10 minutes to read the procedure and do Activity 1
“Make It Move with a Magnet”
Ask a representative from each group to report their answers. Give him/her 2-3
minutes to report. Use an enlarged version of the chart to summarize the
answers of each group on the board.
Discuss each question in the activity. Refer to answers the questions/tasks in the
background information. Let the group check their answers as you discuss the answers. If
there are different results, let the pupils explain their answers to be able to identify where
they made the mistakes or call a pupil from the concerned group to demonstrate what they
did.
After answering the questions , ask the pupils of the direction of the movement of
paper clip.
Recall that force can cause an object to move. The activity shows that the magnet
exerts force on the paper clip.
For the question b, the pupils should identify the objects that can be moved by a
magnet.
For question c, they should observe that the objects can be moved by the magnet
are made of iron, steel or other metal objects that contain these two.
Give your conclusion for the questions a, b and c.
Write your answer on your paper or notebook.
The teacher will use set of fractions in symbols. The teacher will write on the board
“Fractions less tha one”, fractions more than one and fractions equal to one.
Ask a pupil to get a pair of fractions, example 1/3 and 2/7 and compare them. Call
about 3 more pupils to compare a pair of fractions
Have you experienced going to the market?
What products do you usually buy in the market?
Flash some strips of paper with names of commodities sold in the market and
hardware..
Instruct the pupils to check on their show-me-board if the item is sold in the market and
cross if the item is sold in the hardware.
Read the problem.
Kathleen and her mother went to the market. She helped her in buying the following
ingredients:
¾ kilogram of chicken ½ kilogram of sayote
1/8 kilogram of ginger ¼ kilogram of onions
What recipe do you think Kathleen’s mother plans to cook?
Do you also help your mother at home? How?
If we are going to arrange the ingredients from lightest to heaviest, which should come
first? Second? Third? Fourth? Why?

Group the class into 4. Instruct each group to choose a leader and a secretary. Give
each group a set of fraction to be arranged in increasing order. Have them post their

Objects attracted to a magnet are made of iron and some metals. Not all metals

A magnet doesn’t necessarily have to be directly touching a magnetic object to
affect it. It can attract a magnetic object at a distance.
He group’s output in the activity can serve as their assessment. Group Activity
Have 5 groups of 4 members each. Let them choose their leader. Give them set of
fractions to be arranged. Let each member wear the assigned fractions. Tell the groups
to arrange themselves in decreasing order. The first group who arranged themselves
correctly wins. Pose a challenge: What about arranging yourselves in decreasing
order?
