Today we’re going to work on the topic 'Science and inventions'. We’ll talk about
science and technological progress, about discoveries and inventions and their
influence on our lives.

T.: First of all, try to answer quite a simple question: What is Science?

T.: Thanks a lot. Now you are going to listen to a conversation between some
scientists on the topic 'What is science for me?' Your task is to write down the
main definitions of the word 'Science'.

To invent means to create something new. To discover means to find out, see or

Your home task for the next lesson is to put the following inventions in order from
the most useful (1) to the least useful (7): bubble gum, the theory of relativity, the
printing press, corn flakes, the hula hoop, tea, the opener. Then write down an
essay, explaining your opinion.
