‘’Based on the activity, what do you think will be

‘’Probability.’’
the lesson for this afternoon?’’

‘’Yes, the lesson for this afternoon is all about

chances which is probability.’’

‘’Those questions and scenarios talk about

probability of events. You know that those events
might happen, or might not happen, even if you
cannot give mathematical explanation for it.’’

‘’This time, we will learn how to give precise

explanation on probability of events by giving
numerical values.’’

Very good! (The students will read the

Learning Objectives.)
(Presentation of Lesson Objectives)

‘’What is probability?’’

‘’Anyone from the class, who has an idea?’’ ‘’It is the chance that something
will happen.’’
‘’Very Good!’’

Probability of an Event

Probability is the measure of how probable an

event occurs. If each of the outcome in a sample
space has an equal chance of occurring, then the
probability of an event E, which is represented by
P(E) is,

P(E)= number of outcomes in the event n(E)

number of outcomes in the sample space n(S) (The students take notes of the
formula and steps.)

Steps to find the probability:

1. List the outcomes of the experiment

(Sample Space)

2. Count the number of all possible
outcomes of the experiment n(S)
3. Count the favorable outcomes of the
event n(E)
4. Use the formula.

Example 1: Rolling a die.

What is the probability of rolling a 4?

Solution:

S= {1,2,3,4,5,6} n(S)= 6

Event: Rolling a 4 = {4} n(E)= 1

n ( E)
P(E)= (Students listen carefully, and
n (S ) answers if asked.)

P(4)=

(One student will volunteer to

‘’Now, who can try this second example?’’ answer example number 2.)

Example 2: What is the probability of getting an

even number when you roll a die? S= {1,2,3,4,5,6}
n(S)= 6
S= {1,2,3,4,5,6} n(S)= 6
Event : Getting an even
Event : Getting an even number = {2,4,6} number = {2,4,6}
n(E)= 3 n(E)= 3

Example 3: A numbered balls from 1-15 is placed

in the jar. Find the probability of getting an odd
number.
Solution: There are 8 odd

Example 4: Flip a coin. What is the probability of
flipping a tail?

Solution: When you flip a coin, you may get a Solution: When you flip a
head or a tail. So, coin, you may get a head
