At the end of this learning activity learners will be able to:
read phrases, sentences, stories and poems consisting of long a, i,
o, and u words; and
complete stories consisting of and poems with long a, i, o, and u
words
A great way to understand how long vowel words work is to see them in
action in full sentences. As you practice reading phrases, sentences, stories and
poems, you will develop further your reading skills.
Reading is important because it develops the mind. It increases one’s
intelligence by understanding the vocabulary. Understanding the written word is
one way the mind grows in its ability. Writing also improves your handwriting
and other writing problems.
Read the following phrases.

Did you notice the highlighted words? Of course, yes. They are written in
bold letters.
How do we pronounce the letters a, i, o, u in each word? You are right.
They are read with long vowel sound.
I am sure you can read the sentences with long vowel words below. Let
us read them together.
1. Luke will race his car.
2. He will follow the rules, so he will be safe.
3. If not safe, his wife will make him ride his mule.
4. Luke is going to town to vote for the king.
