What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

I want students to begin to implement what they learn in class on healthy behaviors into their
everyday lives the best they can.

Selected Instructional Software Tool: Spotify for Podcasters

Description of Software: Spotify for Podcasters is a free tool student and anyone can make a
podcast on. The layout is straightforward and can be done on a phone or computer. It would be
great to show that students have an understanding of the topic.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

✘ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will use their knowledge from the lesson and create a podcast with Spotify Podcasters. The
teacher will introduce this topic by showing an example podcast and a step-by-step process of how
the podcast is created. The teacher will explain that the goal is for the students to create a health
podcast that they are proud to show their parents. Feedback will be provided with a student draft of
the teacher listening and making sure the podcast is of standard. The conclusion of the lesson will be
the class listening to each other’s podcasts.
Managing student learning: Students will be broken up into four groups to create four podcasts
based on the topics given. These topics are Physical Activity, Nutritious food, Beverage choices, and
personal hygiene. Once this has been done, students will work together to build a podcast with
research and knowledge of the subject for Spotify for Podcasters. The teacher will monitor students
as they work in groups and aid them in creating “scripts” for the podcast. Teachers can have a fill-in-
the-blank script to help students.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
Students will be creating a podcast, and creating is the highest form of learning. The ease of use of
Spotify for Podcasters will help students navigate and create. I feel that this lesson and project use
each of the principles of UDL, most specifically multiple means of representation for students will be
creating their own podcasts based of their learning and research.
Reflection:
I feel that the use of creating a podcast not just for oneself, but for a parent will raise the standard of
how students will want to understand and perform. Not to mention, the use of podcasts in the last
few years has excelled, and understanding how a podcast works as well as creating one can be
beneficial in the future. With the contents of the lesson, students will also learn how to live a
healthier lifestyle. I look forward most to merging all podcasts together and sending it to the
students’ parents.
