How are you?‖ ―I am fine. Thank you. And
you?‖.

(Should
children join in outdoor activities?)”
Giả sử như các bạn đồng ý với quan điểm này, và đưa ra Luận điểm (Point) đầu tiên để bảo vệ ý
kiến của mình.

POINT (Luận điểm): Các hoạt động ngoài trời có thể thúc đẩy khả năng thể chất của trẻ.
(Outdoor activities could foster children’s physical abilities).

playing outdoors, children tend to be involved in various physical movements)

đồng đội để ghi bàn (If a child is playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the
pitch to collaborate with his teammates to score against the opposing team).

67
RESULT (Kết quả): Cuối cùng, bạn đưa một kết quả/ hậu quả để tăng độ thuyết phục, chắc
(Once children are
more active, they can benefit from a more holistic development).

“Outdoor activities could foster children’s physical abilities. It is because when joining these
activities, they tend to be involved in various physical movements. For example, if a child is
playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the pitch to collaborate with his
teammates to score against the opposing team. Once the child players become more active, they
can benefit from a more holistic development.”

- Introduction
- Body Paragraph 1 - Answer the first question
- Body Paragraph 2 - Answer the second question
- Conclusion
“These days more fathers stay at home and take care of their children while mothers go out to
work. What could be the reasons for this? Do you think it is a negative or positive
development?”

1. INTRODUCTION

home husbands has been growing in popularity. This change can be attributed to a number of

3. BODY PARAGRAPH 2
Ở đoạn thân bài thứ hai, chúng ta sẽ trả lời câu hỏi số 2 – ―Do you think it is a negative or
positive development”.

4. CONCLUSION

I. Business
 Social responsibility (agree or disagree)

As well as making money, businesses also have a responsibility towards society. To what
extent do you agree or disagree?

Introduction: It has been argued that businesses should fulfill their duty towards society in
addition to generating profits. In my view, I completely agree as social responsibility can
improve customers’ perceptions of a brand and can attract more shareholders.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, businesses undertaking social responsibility initiatives can improve
their brand image.

Topic sentence 2: Furthermore, social responsibility can encourage more shareholders to

support a business.

Conclusion: In conclusion, I fully agree that businesses should feel an obligation towards
helping society since it can positively change how their brand will be perceived and can entice
more shareholders to support that business. In the near future, I predict that more businesses
will engage in socially responsible activities due to these legitimate benefits.

 Climate change and business (discussion)

Some think that climate change reforms will negatively affect business. Others feel they are
an opportunity for businesses. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

Introduction: Some assert that climate change reforms will harm businesses, whereas others
claim they can benefit industry. While these reforms will likely detrimentally affect businesses to
an extent, I would ultimately argue that they present an opportunity for these businesses to
reshape their business models and thrive through demand for sustainable goods and services.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, climate change reforms can harm businesses to some extent.

Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, these reforms are more beneficial than detrimental for the
following reasons.

Conclusion: In conclusion, though measures to mitigate climate change can hurt businesses to
varying degrees, I assert that they are more beneficial as they serve as a catalyst for innovation
and new services. In the near future, I predict that businesses will embrace these reforms and be
able to reconcile their operations with sustainable practices.

107
II. Education
 Free access to university (agree or disagree)

Some people believe that everyone has a right to access to university education and that
governments should make it free for all students no matter what financial background they
come from. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Introduction: It has been argued by some that all citizens are entitled to a university education
and it should be provided by the government. In my opinion, although this measure might foster
an overly competitive labour market, I mostly agree since the educational system would be more
accessible to lower-income segments of society.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, making tertiary education free for all would result in a more
competitive labor market.

Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, free access to tertiary education should be guaranteed by
the state in order to ensure a more stable society.

Conclusion: In conclusion, though this reform might make it more difficult for individuals to
secure jobs generally, free tertiary education should still be implemented widely as it guarantees
that less privileged students will have a basic means of sustaining themselves. The implications
of this for society will naturally be far-reaching.

 Horticulture and domestication (advantages/disadvantages)

It is often suggested that primary children should learn how to grow vegetables and keep
animals. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Introduction: Some have advocated that primary school children should learn to raise animals
and grow vegetables. Though the disadvantages of this should not be underestimated, the
advantages, which include encouraging children to participate in physical exercise and the
imparting of agricultural knowledge, are greater.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, there are legitimate disadvantages to teaching primary school
children to care for animals and vegetables regarding their physical health.

Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, the physical and educational advantages of children
learning basic farming knowledge are more substantial.

Conclusion: In conclusion, there are clear disadvantages to teaching children how to raise
animals and grow vegetables for their health. However, the advantages of motivating children to
be more physically active and learning vital knowledge concerning agriculture are of greater
consequence in the long-term.

108
III. Entertainment
 Watching live events (agree or disagree)

Watching a live performance such as a play, concert, or sporting event is more enjoyable
than watching the same event on television. To what extent do you agree or disagree with
this statement?

Introduction: It has been argued by some that watching a live performance firsthand is a more
enjoyable experience than watching it on TV. I am in complete agreement since in person
attendance allows for a more engaging and social atmosphere.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, watching live shows in person offers audiences a more exciting
atmosphere.

Topic sentence 2: Furthermore, while attending live shows, audience members are more likely to
make new friends.

Conclusion: To conclude, I would assert that watching live performances in person is more
enjoyable than watching them on TV as they provide an engrossing experience that allows for
the possibility of making new social connections. Therefore, individuals should continue to
support and attend a variety of shows.

 Impacts of video games (two-part question)

Today many children spend a lot of time playing video games and little time on sports.
What are the negative effects of playing computer games? What can be done to minimize
these bad effects?

Introduction: It has been argued by some that children today spend too much time playing video
games instead of sports. This can potentially harm people’s social skills and engender mental
health issues. However, these repercussions can be tackled by both the state and parents.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, children playing video games more than sports impairs their ability to
forge social connections and mental health.

Topic sentence 2: Fortunately, there are sensible solutions that can be implemented by the state
and parents.

Conclusion: In conclusion, playing video games more than sports can cause the deterioration of
social skills and mental health issues. However, these problems can be mitigated by closer
parental supervision and banning video game advertising. I predict that once these solutions are
in effect, children will be less inclined to play video games and engage more in sports.

IV. Environment
 Car-free days (discussion)

Some people believe that car-free days are effective ways to reduce air pollution. However,
others argue that there are several other ways that are more effective. Discuss both views
and give your own opinion.

Introduction: There have been differing opinions as to whether car-free days can actually work to
curb air pollution. In my view, though car-free days will have an impact, I would argue that there
are more effective measures that can be taken such as encouraging the use of public transport and
teaching the importance of environmental protection in schools.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, car-free days effectively limit the amount of fossil fuels
burned on a daily basis.

Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, there are more effective ways to reduce air pollution related
to infrastructure and education.

Conclusion: In conclusion, though car-free days can to a degree reduce air pollution, I would
assert that this goal can be better accomplished by encouraging public transportation and
incorporating environmental protection into school curricula. Governments should naturally
employ a variety of strategies.

 Overpopulation in cities (problem-solution)

Overpopulation of urban areas has led to numerous problems. What are the problems? What
should governments and individuals do to tackle these problems?

Introduction: Cities these days are facing unprecedented challenges related to overpopulation.
These issues include environmental damage and rising crime rates. However, there are legitimate
solutions to these problems that can be undertaken by the state.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, urban overpopulation has engendered critical problems concerning the
safety and the environment.

Topic sentence 2: Thankfully, the government can implement reasonable long-term solutions to
tackle the problems of overpopulation in urban areas.

Conclusion: In conclusion, though urban overpopulation has caused existential problems related
to environmental degradation and an increase in crime, these issues can be curbed by the state
investing more in rural areas and implementing a one-child policy. Such solutions should be
pursued to guarantee higher standards of living for future generations.

V. Health
 Healthy lifestyle (discussion)

Some people believe that governments should make laws about people’s nutrition and food
choices while others argue that these are individual choices. Discuss both views and give
your opinion.

Introduction: Some have proposed that the government should intervene to regulate nutrition
while others assert that food choices should be left to individuals themselves. While there are
valid grounds for the former viewpoint, I would maintain that people should be free to choose
what food they would like to eat as taste is a subjective preference that relates directly to one’s
health.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, there are valid justifications for governments to dictate
nutritional laws regarding eliminating malnutrition.

Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, I would nonetheless assert that consumers should be free to
make their own food choices owing to their personal proclivities.

Conclusion: In conclusion, though the government can play a role in mandating what people
should eat to an extent, I would argue that individuals should make their own food choices in
order to satisfy their individual preferences. Therefore, current nutritional policies should remain
in place.

 Overconsumption of soft drinks (two-part question)

People are consuming more and more sugar-based drinks. What are the reasons? What
can be done to make people consume fewer of such drinks?

Introduction: Soft drinks have become increasingly popular and common in recent decades. This
trend can be attributed to more competitive pricing and the effects of these drinks. However,
solutions from the government can be adopted to rectify this pressing situation.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, consumers drink more soft drinks as they are affordable and can
provide immediate energy boosts.

Topic sentence 2: However, overconsumption of sugary drinks can be countered through

governmental regulation.

Conclusion: In conclusion, the rise in soda consumption can be ascribed to lower prices and the
energy boosts they provide. However, the government can counter this trend by introducing
higher taxes and limiting advertising.

VI. Language:
 Learning languages and customs (agree or disagree)

Some think that students must travel to another country in order to learn its language and
customs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Introduction: It has been argued by certain individuals that students should travel abroad to learn
the vernacular and traditions of foreign nations. While this may present certain obstacles, I
largely agree that they should do this to be completely immersed in a foreign language and widen
their perspectives on different cultures and traditions.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, traveling abroad is neither cost-effective nor completely safe
for some students.

Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, students should still travel to foreign nations for
educational and cultural reasons.

Conclusion: In conclusion, despite the apparent obstacles of sending students abroad to learn
foreign languages and customs, I still believe they should do this in order to be better immersed
in a foreign language and expand their understanding of unfamiliar cultures and traditions.
Governments should therefore support funding for such initiatives.

 Prevalence of English (two-part question)

The development of tourism has contributed to English becoming the most prominent
language in the world. Some people think this will lead to English becoming the only
language in the future. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a single universal
language?

Introduction: Thanks to the tourism industry, the use of English has proliferated to the point
where it has become the leading language around the world. This has led some to proclaim that
English will become the only language that will be spoken by future generations. The advantages
of this trend concerning communication and economics do not outweigh the cultural drawbacks.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, using only English offers some substantial advantages related to
convenience and economics.

Topic sentence 2: However, there are significant disadvantages to only using English regarding
linguistic and cultural diversity.

Conclusion: In conclusion, the advantages to having only English as the main global language
include better employment opportunities for individuals and seamless communication between
different cultures. However, the disadvantages are the disappearance of indigenous minor
languages and threats to cultural preservation.

112
VII. Social issues
 Consumerism in today’s society (two-part question)

In many countries, people are living in a “throw-away society” where things are used for a
short time and thrown away.
What are the causes of this? What problems does it lead to?

Introduction: These days, many individuals are in the habit of discarding consumer goods after
their intended use. In my opinion, the main cause of this is the pervasiveness of advertising
coupled with advancing technologies, and the main result of this phenomenon is degradation of
the natural world.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, the proliferation of single-use products stems from advertising and
scientific advancement.

Topic sentence 2: This trend has unfortunately resulted in the over-exploitation of natural
resources, which in turn exacerbates existing environmental issues.

Conclusion: In conclusion, today’s environmentally harmful ―throw-away society‖ is the result

of excessive advertising and technological advancement. Therefore, governments should counter
this problem by imposing stringent bans on disposable plastic products.

 Relocation to cities (problem-solution)

Some young people are leaving the countryside to live in cities and towns, leaving mainly
older people in the countryside.
What problems does this cause? What can be done to solve this problem?

Introduction: In contemporary society, younger generations are increasingly migrating to urban

areas. This phenomenon has led to lower living standards generally and a competitive job market
in large cities and the best solution to this is rural economic development.

Topic sentence 1: An increase in urban migration has resulted in poorer living conditions and
greater competition for limited employment positions.

Topic sentence 2: The aforementioned problems can be best countered by rural economic
development policies.

Conclusion: In conclusion, increasing urban populations have reduced standards of living in

cities and created more competitive labor markets. However, these pressing issues can be
effectively mitigated if governments implement initiatives to boost rural economies.

113
VIII. Sports
 Sports and marketing (agree or disagree)

Large companies use sports events to promote their products. Some people think this has a
negative impact on sports.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Introduction: There has been growing controversy over large corporations promoting their
products through sporting events. In my opinion, though this enhances the spread of a given
sport, I agree that it is negative overall as it diverts focus away from the sports themselves.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, sport sponsorships help sports expand their influence

Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, commodification also necessarily entails a reduction in
focus on the actual sport.

Conclusion: In conclusion, though sports sponsorships are an effective marketing strategy, I

contend that they result in less emphasis on the sports themselves. It is advisable for sporting
event organizers to choose wisely and limit sponsorships as much as possible.

 Role of sports in society (discussion)

Some people think that sports play an important role in society. Others think they are
nothing more than a leisure activity.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Introduction: Some believe that sports play a crucial role in society while others consider them to
be merely recreational activities. In my opinion, though the primary goal of sports is
entertainment, they can also serve to promote relationships between nations.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, the majority of individuals play sports merely as a leisure
pastime.

Topic sentence 2: Nonetheless, I would argue that sports can greatly contribute to a more
peaceful world.

Conclusion: In conclusion, despite the main purpose of sports being to entertain, I firmly hold
the view that they can also help to forge more harmonious relationships between nations.
Therefore, international sports events such as The Olympics or The World Cup should continue
to be held.

114
IX. Technology
 The Internet and school (agree or disagree)

Some today argue that schools are no longer necessary because children can learn so much
from the internet and be educated at home.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Introduction: It is often argued that formal education is no longer essential as children nowadays
can acquire knowledge via the Internet at home. In my opinion, although online schooling is
more flexible, I agree that schools are still the indispensable foundation for quality education.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, proponents of online learning point to its flexibility.

Topic sentence 2: Nonetheless, formal education is crucial due to the value of teachers and one’s
peers.

Conclusion: To conclude, though homeschooling via the Internet is more flexible, I maintain that
schools are still of great necessity because they provide students with a comprehensive education
from qualified professionals and their peers. Governments should be mindful of this fact when
developing future educational policies.

 Modern electronics (two-part question)

Some old people today struggle with the use of modern technologies such as smartphones
and computers.
Why is this the case? What are some possible solutions?

Introduction: These days, many senior citizens find it hard to acclimate to the pervasive use of
electronic devices in society generally. The main cause of this is a lack of specialized knowledge
on their part and the best solution is to educate them.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, the elderly have difficulty in using modern technology because these
devices are fundamentally novel experiences.

Topic sentence 2: This contemporary problem can be best countered by educating the elderly on
the proper uses of technology.

Conclusion: In conclusion, seniors struggle to become familiar with modern technology mainly
because they do not understand how they operate and the optimal solution involves education. In
this way, old people might enjoy the modern benefits of smartphones and computers.

115
X. Work
 Part-time jobs (advantages/disadvantages)

Many children are encouraged by their parents to get a part-time job in their free time.
Do the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages?

Introduction: Nowadays, many parents encourage their children to participate in hourly-paid

work. Personally, though this phenomenon may result in less engagement with school, it enables
students to develop a set of life skills which outweigh that particular disadvantage.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, opponents of part-time jobs worry about teenagers becoming distracted
from their studies.

Topic sentence 2: However, working part-time is a crucial opportunity for young students to
learn skills necessary for their future.

Conclusion: In conclusion, although part-time work can distract adolescents from their studies, I
am strongly of the opinion that it helps them develop essential life skills. Therefore, high
schoolers should attempt various jobs to better prepare themselves for the future.

 Working overtime (two-part question)

Many people today are working longer hours. Why is this happening? What problems can
this cause for people?

Introduction: The tendency to work longer hours is becoming increasingly common. In my

opinion, this is the consequence of competitive modern job markets and the resultant problems
relate to the deterioration of both physical and mental health.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, working additional hours is largely due to increased competition in
various industries.

Topic sentence 2: Furthermore, working overtime can adversely affect workers’ physical and
mental well-being.

Conclusion: To conclude, working longer hours is the result of a highly competitive job market
and this has detrimental repercussions on individuals’ health. Therefore, citizens should attempt
to achieve a more ideal work-life balance.

116
XI. Internet
 Online shopping (discussion)

Some people claim that modern technology has made shopping today easier, while others
disagree.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Introduction: It is sometimes argued that technological advances have enhanced the current
consumer shopping experience. Although I agree with this statement, I would concede it has also
led to an increase in internet fraud.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, modern technology has improved customers’ shopping
experiences both online and offline.

Topic sentence 2: However, shopping online can naturally increase the possibility of cybercrime.

Conclusion: In conclusion, despite a wider range of choices and greater convenience, shoppers
may encounter potential dangers related to online fraud. Thus, consumers should be wary of the
information they provide when shopping.

 Online communication (advantages/disadvantages)

Online communication is becoming more common than face-to-face communication in

many companies.

Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Introduction: In contemporary society, it is becoming increasingly common for many

corporations to employ methods of virtual communication. Personally, I believe the drawbacks
of this phenomenon are overshadowed by its advantages, which include greater convenience and
cheaper costs.

Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, this trend contains definitive disadvantages relating to
weaker social connections and potential interruptions.

Topic sentence 2: Despite the valid arguments mentioned above, I would argue that online
communication is more beneficial both for employees and businesses.

Conclusion: In conclusion, while communicating online may weaken interpersonal relationships

between co-workers and can easily become inefficient, it is a positive overall because it is
convenient and cost-effective. Therefore, companies ought to adopt such communication
methods whenever feasible.

117
XII. Children and school
 Reading books or watching TV (agree or disagree)

Some people believe that reading stories from a book is better than watching TV or playing
computer games for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Introduction: It is often argued that reading books is more beneficial for children compared to
watching television or playing computer games. Personally, I completely disagree with this
statement due to the benefits modern media confers in terms of education and cognitive
development.

Topic sentence 1: Firstly, electronic devices are powerful learning tools for children.

Topic sentence 2: In addition, watching TV or playing computer games can boost a child’s
cognitive abilities.

Conclusion: In conclusion, I firmly hold the view that watching TV or playing computer games
is advantageous for children since these are both great sources of learning that can enhance
cognitive development. Parents should allow their children ample time to engage with
technology.

 Local or world history (agree or disagree)

It is more important for schoolchildren to learn about local history than world history. To
what extent do you agree or disagree?
Introduction: Many people believe that learning about local history is more essential than world
history. Personally, I totally disagree with this statement as they are equally important.
Topic sentence 1: On the one hand, local history enables schoolchildren to develop a deep
understanding and connection with their ancestors.
Topic sentence 2: On the other hand, learning about world history aids individuals in attaining
cultural literacy on a global scale.
Conclusion: In conclusion, while domestic history helps citizens understand their forefathers,
international study gives them global cultural knowledge. Therefore, children should be
encouraged to learn both in equal measure.
