Integration of other learning areas
Comprehension through reading
the short song/rap
HOTS-SOLO integration
LEARNING TASK
ENGAGE
- Teacher will show the scrambled letter word below
ENIRCODNE STEMYS Student Response:
Ask: 1. What do you think the scrambled letter word is? 1. ENDOCRINE SYSTEM
2. Are you familiar with this endocrine system? 2. Yes, (Students should have prior
3. Tell something about the Endocrine system knowledge of the systems because
Say: It seems that some of you have already an idea as to what is the it’s a Grade 6 second quarter lesson
endocrine system is.. about Parts and Functions of Human
Body Systems (S6LT-IIa-b-1 ))
So obviously, since, endocrine is basically a system, it is composed
3. (Answer Varies)
of glands. But not like the other system, endocrine system secretes
Endocrine system controls and
different types of hormones that affect almost every cell, organ, and
regulates body processes. It is the
function of our body. It is essential in regulating growth and
system that is in control of the
development, metabolism, as well as reproductive processes and
mechanisms in the body.
mood.

EXPLORE
- Teacher will ask student to listen to a 2 minutes song/ rap.
Downloaded from YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=KsBgcEvihS8
(see attachment for lyrics of the song)
- Students will be given a copy of the lyrics of the song/rap
- Teacher will ask student to listen and try to sing the song as
well.
- After listening to the song/rap. Teacher ask the following Student Response:
question; 1. Endocrine system secretes chemical
messenger known as hormones.
Ask: 1. What is endocrine system for?
2. (Answer varies)
Say: Try to look at the illustration on the board.
(see attachment for clear view of the illustration.)

- Thyroid gland and parathyroid

located at the neck that keeps or

regulates the calcium level.

2.What are the glands or organs mention in the song/rap.

3. How important are the organs/lands important base from their
function?

Say: Very good, it seems that you really listen to the song.
Now, it is already clear, that endocrine system consist of glands that
secrete chemicals known as hormones into the bloodstream, which
carried throughout the body. Thus, when a hormone in the blood
reaches the target organ, it produces a notable effect that sends
signals all over the body.

- Teacher will post a table on the board and ask student to fill in the
table with the correct information. Answers are also posted on the
board. (see attachment for clearer view of the table)
Answer to the table:
(see attachment for clearer view of the table)
- Students will ask to fill in the table by identifying the endocrine

glands/organ, its description thru its location, structure, and

hormone release and its function.
- The following are the choices;
A. Name of gland/organ
Choices: Hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thymus, adrenal gland,
pancreas
B. Structure
Choices: small cone shape structure connected to the pituitary
gland, small, pea size, a two lobed structure, small triangular
gland, shape like a flat pear
C. Location
Choices: at the base of the brain connected to pituitary gland, at
the base of the brain, in front of the heart, top of the kidneys,
between the kidneys
D. Hormone
Choices: Oxytocin, Growth Hormone, Adrenocorticotropic

3
Hormone (ACTH), Prolactin, Luteinizing Hormone, Follicle
Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Releasing Factors, Thymosin,
Adrenalin, Insulin, Glucagon
E. Functions
Choices: stimulates growth, and controls the functions of
other glands, enables the body to produce certain antibodies, prepares
the body for action, controls the heart rate and breathing in times of
emergency, regulates blood sugar levels, regulates activities of the
body such as temperature, blood pressure and use of water.
A.

EXPLAIN
-Teacher will ask to present their output. Let student explain and
discuss their observation and their answers to guide question thru
reporting.

- In case, the time will not be enough for all groups to present the
remaining group will present their presentation thru video
presentation which will be uploaded in the science 10 group page.

-Teacher will also ask probing question during the activity

Guide questions;
Q15. Which gland of the endocrine controls the other glands in the
body? Probable Answer to the Guide Question

Q16. How will you differentiate thyroid and parathyroid glands in

terms of location and function? Answers to Guide Questions:
Q17. If a person’s blood sugar level becomes unstable, what glands Q15. The pituitary gland controls the
might be involved in the problem? output of other glands in the body.

4
Q16. The thyroid gland is located below
the voice box and regulates body
metabolism by producing
calcitonin that reduces blood
calcium level; while parathyroid
gland is located on the thyroid
glands and produces parathormone
that increases blood calcium levels
Q18. How important is the thymus gland in keeping your body free and normalizes bone growth.
from diseases? Q17. The person’s pancreas is possibly
involved when blood sugar level
Q19. What might happen to a person born without a thymus gland? becomes unstable.
Q20. How will you explain the sudden boost of energy, increased Q18. The thymus gland enables the body
strength and extraordinary ability to lift very heavy objects especially to produce T- cells that help in
during emergency situations? fighting infections and diseases.
Q19. A person born without a thymus
gland will not develop an adaptive
immune system and may
eventually die.
Q20. The adrenal gland produces
adrenaline that enables the body to
have the energy in doing
spontaneous work during
emergency situations.

ELABORATE
- Teacher will ask mind pick question which links to other
discipline or in real life situations.

Students Response
Ask: Why do you think the human endocrine system called the
system of checks and balance? - Answer varies
Say: The endocrine system is also known as the “system of checks
and balances” that works to keep the body system healthy. One of the
instances when the endocrine system is working properly is by
sending signals to another gland, which responds by controlling the
chemicals of the first gland.

Ask: Why are the hormones necessary to our well-being?

- Answer varies
Say: Because hormones control various body processes. This control
system usually brings about slow changes in the body because
chemical messengers move more slowly than nerve impulses.
