D. Discussing new PROPER WASTE MANAGEMENT

concepts and practicing
new skills #1 Proper waste management includes several activities which help the community
and the environment become a clean, safe, happy, healthy, and productive place
to live in. There are many ways to conduct proper waste management whether
you are at home, in school, or in other places in the community.

WASTE STORAGE
Waste storage means putting waste in well-sealed and properly labeled.
containers. This prevents contamination by insects and rodents, spillage, being.
blown away by wind, avoiding foul odor, and protection from different illness.

Biodegradable: Materials or substances capable of being decomposed by

natural biological processes, usually bacteria or other microorganisms, into
environmentally friendly components.

2
Can you give other biodegradable waste?

Non-biodegradable: Materials or substances that do not easily break down or

decompose over time, leading to long-lasting environmental impact and potential
pollution.

Can you give other non-biodegradable waste?

Hazardous: Refers to substances that pose a risk or danger to human health,

the environment, or both, often due to their toxic, flammable, or reactive nature.

Can you give other Hazardous waste?

E. Discussing new 3 R’s

concepts and
practicing new skills #2

The three R's - reduce, reuse and recycle - are three

approaches, and the most environmentally preferred.
Reducing, reusing and recycling waste helps save landfill space by keeping
useful materials out.

The three R's in waste management stand for:

Reduce
Minimize the generation of waste by using resources more efficiently and
consuming less.
 bringing a reusable eco-friendly bag when shopping

Reuse
Reuse a magic word for removing huge amounts of waste in landfills

3
and city dumps. There are over a hundred useful ways to reuse wastes at home,
in school, and elsewhere in the community
 Using pieces of paper as alternative notebooks for your daily list

Recycle
To recycle wastes means to make another useful thing out of a waste item.
This is different from reusing because things to be recycled are no longer suitable
for their primary purpose but can still be used for something else.
 Paint old glass bottles with artistic designs and display at the home

Proper Waste Management in the Community

1. Collect, segregate and store the different types of wastes properly.

2. Secure the garbage bag tightly to prevent animals from scattering them.

3. Support clean-up activities of waterways, canals, creeks and public places in

the community.

4. Observe the schedule of garbage retrieval by garbage collectors or garbage

trucks.

F. Developing mastery Group Activity

(leads to Formative
Assessment 3) Activity 1

Classify the given waste into its proper type. Write your answers inside the
garbage bin.

Activity 2

Identify the items that can be Reused and Recycled. Answer the activity.

4
Activity 3

Using colors and pen, Redesign the symbol for Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Activity 4

“Pantomime” That shows Proper Waste Management

G. Finding practical The pupils will stand and make a promise about proper waste management.
application of concepts
and skills in daily living

I pledge to practice responsible waste management by reducing, reusing,

and recycling to minimize my environmental footprint and contribute to
a cleaner, healthier planet.

H. Generalizing and Proper waste management involves the organized and responsible collection,
abstractions about the disposal, and recycling of waste materials to minimize environmental impact,
lesson
promote public health, and ensure a sustainable and clean-living environment.
Community must be actively involved in promoting and implementing effective
waste management practices to achieve long-term sustainability.

I. Evaluating learning Write C if the statement shows proper management of wastes and
X if it does not. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper.
