Ang Pangarap ng Pagong Halaw kay Esopo

Matagal nang pangarap ni Pagong ang maranasan ang makalipad at makarating sa kalangitan kapantay ng mga ulap. Isang
araw, kinausap niya ang kaniyang mga kaibigang ibon. “Maari ba ninyo akong tulungan na makarating sa kalangitan at
matanaw ang magagandang tanawin sa kalupaan?Gusto ko lang maranasan ang inyong nararanasan,” dagdag pa niya.
“Sige, tutulungan ka naming matupad ang matagal mo nang pangarap,” ang sagot naman ng mga kaibigan niyang ibon.

“Paano naman ako makakalipad at makakarating sa itaas?” tanong ni Pagong. “Madali lang, gagamit tayo ng isang patpat.
Kakagatin naming ang tigkabilang dulo ng patpat.Kagatin mo naman ang gitnang bahagi nito. Madadala ka naming sa
aming paglipad. At kumuha nga ng isang patpat ang kaniyang mga kaibigang ibon. Kinagat nila ang parehong dulo nito
at pinakagat si Pagong sa gitna ng patpat. Lumipad sila ng lumipad paitaas. Tuwang-tuwa si Pagong. Naranasan na rin
niya ang makarating sa itaas. Maya-maya, nakita sila ng mga tao sa ibaba. Itinuturo ng mga tao ang dalawang ibon at
isang pagong na nasa himpapawid. Hangang-hanga ang mga tao at kumakaway sa magkakaibigang ibon at pagong.
Dahil sa katuwaan sa paghanga ng mga tao, ibinuka ni Pagong ang kaniyang bibig upang batiin ang mga tao sa ibaba.

Si Lota ay isang batang masipag mag-aral. Tuwing hapon, pagkadating sa bahay, kuha

Scarecrow
Farmers have been making scarecrows for more than
three thousand years. A scarecrow or hay-man is a
trap. It is shaped like a human dressed in old clothes
and placed in fields by farmers to scare away birds such as crows

is truly a farmer’s best friend

A simple way of looking at symmetry among shapes and figures is that if the shape were
folded in half over the line of symmetry, the two portions are identical and would fit each other
exactly. However, one should be careful not to immediately infer symmetry when two halves of a
shape or figure are identical. Moreover, a shape may show symmetry when folded in a particular
way but may fail to show the same when folded differently.

Show a picture of a circle objects.

While holding a bordered circular piece of paper, say, “What shape is defined/represented by this
paper?” (“The boundary of the paper represents a circle.”) Ask a pupil to show where the circle is. It is
expected that the pupil would trace the border around the paper. The teacher then draws a dotted line
through the center of the circle. It can also be done beforehand at the flip side of the cutout. It would help
if the teacher drew a thick dotted line using a colored marker. “Does the line divide the circle equally?”
(“Yes, the line divides the circle equally.) Now, the teacher cuts along the dotted line. The trick is to cut
with precision so that both half circles would still contain dotted lines along their edges.
“How do we call each part?” (“Each part is called one-half.) “Who can draw on the board one-half
circle?” You may allow the pupil to use the cutout of a half circle to trace its boundary including the straight
edge but only as broken line. The pupil should draw something like the ones shown below regardless of
orientation.

Technically, portions of a circle ought to be arcs. The idea of including the interior of the circle or
any plane figure, for that matter, is somewhat disadvantageous to pupils when they study geometry in
higher grades. However, for the sake of simplicity, pupils may be introduced to half and quarter circles
where the edges are represented by dotted lines. “Children, one-half of a circle is called a half circle.”
Write “half circle” on the board. “Again, what is a half circle?” (“A half circle is one-half of a circle.”) “Using
the figure drawn by (name of pupil) on the board, who can show me where the half circle is?

“By this time, everyone knows how to draw and identify squares, rectangles, triangles and circles.
In our previous lesson, you also learned how to define and distinguish between half and quarter circles.”
“Drawing these shapes on a piece of paper, as you did a while ago, is just one way of showing what they
are and how they look like. We call it representing or modelling shapes. A model is not the thing itself. It
just gives us an idea of what is being represented. You sometimes hear people say, ‘He is a model of
courage.’ The person is not courage itself but just possesses qualities of being brave.” “But do you know
that there are other ways of modelling shapes aside from drawing them? We will discuss two of them, first
of which would be by paper folding and cutting.”
“Paper folding activities usually starts with a square. However, most papers come in rectangular
shapes.” The teacher shows a piece of bond paper or a sheet of pad paper. “Do you agree that this piece
of paper is rectangular in shape?” (“Yes ma’am!”) “Our first task is to turn a rectangular piece of paper into
a square by paper folding and cutting. You may get a sheet of pad paper and try to follow what I am doing.
Be ready also with your pair of scissors” “First, lay out your sheet of paper vertically.” The teacher may use
the board to lay out the paper for everyone to see clearly how the folding is done. After each step, he/she
should walk around to see if everyone can follow his/her directions. “From the upper right hand corner, fold
the paper until it meets the opposite edge.” See to it that the edges are aligned with each other. “Now,
using your pair of scissors, cut the rectangular portion leaving the part which is triangular in shape. What
remains are two overlapping triangles which, when unfolded is a model of a square.”
The teacher should check the work of every pupil. It should also be clear to everyone that the
edges of the paper represent the square and not the whole paper.

• Group the class into four , choose a leader
• Instruct the pupils to talk about their experiences in places where they have gone already.
• Ask their favorite places and how they have reached the place.
• Ask if they have experienced riding on an airplane.
• Let them listen to the song “Akyat at Baba” and allow them to feel the message of the song.
• Ask what they have remembered with the song.
• You will listen to the song again, following the instructions below.

Activity 2:
1. Close your eyes while listening to the song.
2. Imagine that you are riding on an airplane.
• When melodic pattern goes up, draw a star, when it goes down, draw a mountain and on the
last part of the song, draw tall trees for the high tones and small trees for the low tones.

They have noticed in the melody of the song.
Ask them to sing the “High and Low” with action. Instruct them to stand when they hear the word
High and sit, when they hear the word Low.

they will sit gradually. The teacher will guide and lead the activity.

Give an example of the things that can produce high and low tones.

gagawin sa palengke?

Si Tagpi ay isang matakaw na aso. Pinakikialaman niya ang lahat ng pagkain na kaniyang nakikita. Isang umaga,
nakaramdam siya ng gutom. Pumunta siya sa palengke upang tumingin kung ano ang puwede niyang kainin. “Aba! May
isang tumpok ng karne sa mesang iyon. Hindi nakatingin ang tindero kaya puwede ko siyang kunin”, ang sabi niya sa
sarili. At mabilis ngang tinalon ni Tagpi ang karne sa ibabaw ng mesa. Dali-dali niya itong kinagat at mabilis na tumakbo
habang galit na galit naman na hinabol siya ng tindero.
 Sa pagdaan ni Tagpi sa may sapa, ano ang nakita niya?  Ano ang kaniyang ginawa?  Ano ang nangyari sa karne na
kaniyang tangay? Sa pagtakbo ni Tagpi ay napadaan siya sa isang tulay na nasa ibabaw ng isang sapa. Napatingin siya
sa tubig. “Aba! At mayroong isang aso na meron ding tangay na karne,” naisip niya. “Mabuti pa ay takutin ko siya upang
ibigay din niya sa akin ang kaniyang karne,” ang naghahangad pang dagdag niya. Malakas na kahol ang kaniyang ginawa
upang takutin ang aso na nasa tubig ng sapa. Sa kaniyang pagkahol, nalaglag sa tubig ang karne na kaniyang tangay.

Taxi, Ma’am, Sir! By Dali Soriano
“Taxi, Sir? I’ll get one for you.” I am Ted. After school I stay outside the gate of the
village near our house. I call taxis for people who need them. I am most happy when a passenger
gives me one peso. This is how I help my parents buy food for my brothers and sisters. One day,
an old man asked me to call for a taxi and gave me a paper bag. “Ted, take this home to your
family,” he said. “Thank you, sir,” I told him. I ran home to share the bag with my family.
“Pancit!” shouted my little sister as she opened the bag. My five brothers and two sisters ran to
the table. We all shared the pancit. “Where did you get the money to buy pancit?” Nanay asked. “I
called for a taxi for an old man and he gave me a bag of pancit. He told me to share it with you,” I
replied. The next day, the man called me again but not for a taxi. “Would you like to help clean
my house?” he asked. “Oh yes, but when? You see, I go to school,” I answered. “I will send you
to school.” “Really?” I asked. “Yes, I will,” he said.
“Ah, but I don’t want to be away from my family,” I added. “You are not leaving them. After
school you come help me clean the house. Then, you can go home,” the man explained. “Thank
you. I like that. My parents will like the good news,” I said. My parents were happy. I like
working for the kind, old man. I don’t have to call for taxis anymore.

will mention the different lengths of the hands.  Set the hands in  7:00 and say “we
hold flag raising ceremonies at 7:00 in the morning” (do not teach first how to tell time).
 8:00 and say “I go to sleep at 8 0’clock in the evening”.

Activity 1:
• Group the class into four , choose a leader
• Instruct the pupils to talk about their experiences in places where they have gone already.
• Ask their favorite places and how they have reached the place.
• Ask if they have experienced riding on an airplane.
• Let them listen to the song “Akyat at Baba” and allow them to feel the message of the song.
• Ask what they have remembered with the song.
• You will listen to the song again, following the instructions below.

Activity 2:
1. Close your eyes while listening to the song.
2. Imagine that you are riding on an airplane.
• When melodic pattern goes up, draw a star, when it goes down, draw a mountain and on the
last part of the song, draw tall trees for the high tones and small trees for the low tones.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1


Tell your pupils to analyse the song. Ask what
They have noticed in the melody of the song.
Ask them to sing the “High and Low” with action. Instruct them to stand when they hear the word
High and sit, when they hear the word Low.
While singing, when the tones move up they will stand gradually and when the tones move down
they will sit gradually. The teacher will guide and lead the activity.

Give an example of the things that can produce high and low tones.
