Львовa.

І відьми розлітaлись по місту, виловлюючи всіх, хто поночі тинявся вулицями. А ще вони
літaли нaд містом, шукaючи, хто зaбув ключa у дверях. Вони ключі викрaдaли і приносили
своєму пaнові. А в тому будинку, де вкрaдено було ключa, вже ніколи спокою не було.
Відьми дістaвaли влaду нaд господaрями і змушувaли їх гризтися між собою, товктися і жити
в постійних чвaрaх. Тому, коли в якійсь родині не було лaду, то кaзaли, що видно, з їхньої
хaти ключa відьми вкрaли.

Witches on Bald Mountain

When Lviv was founded, the castle initially stood on Knyazha Hora. But the winds there were so
strong that King Leo only stayed in that castle for one winter and had to build the Low Castle on the
hill. When the castle on Knyazha Hora burned down during the Polish invasion of Lviv in 1340, it
was not rebuilt. For a long time, the mountain stood empty, without a forest, and began to be called
Bald Mountain. Bald Mountain became a favorite place for the entertainment of witches,
sorceresses, and demons who lived in the vicinity of Lviv.
And the witches spread throughout the city, catching anyone who wandered the streets at night.
They also flew over the city, searching for anyone who forgot their key in the door. They stole the
keys and brought them to their master. And in the house where the key was stolen, there was never
any peace again.
The witches gained power over the homeowners and forced them to quarrel, fight, and live in
constant conflict. So, when there was disorder in a family, they said that it was because the witches
had stolen the key from their house.

У давні часи, років чотириста тому, у львівській ратуші з’явився привид. Приходив він
опівночі у вигляді чорної труни, яка літала залами і сходами, а луна розносила її страшний
стогін. Нічна сторожа і родина трубача, який мешкав у кімнатці на балконі вежі, щоразу зі
страхом хрестилися. Ніхто не міг пояснити появу чорної труни, та ось один із лавників так
називалися у давньому Львові судді, що провадили кримінальні справи) розгадав таємницю.
Одного разу колегія лавників не досить ретельно розглянула судову справу і засудила
невинного чоловіка на кару смерті. Згодом знайшли справжнього винуватця злочину, але
було вже пізно — невинний постраждав. Після цього у ратуші почала з’являтися чорна
труна, як грізна пересторога для неправедних суддів.
Нове покоління лавників вивело величезними літерами на обкладинці лавничої книги
слова: “Пам‘ятай про труну, що сходами і залами Ратуші ходила”. Кожен хто брав книгу до
рук, вже дуже добре думав перед тим, ніж приректи когось на тяжку кару.

In ancient times, around four hundred years ago,
a ghost appeared in the Lviv Town Hall. It
would come at midnight in the form of a black
coffin, flying through the halls and stairs, while
its eerie moans echoed through the building. The
night watchmen and the family of the trumpeter,
who lived in a small room on the balcony of the
tower, would cross themselves in fear every
time. No one could explain the appearance of
the black coffin, but one of the judges, called
"lavnyk" in old Lviv, unraveled the mystery.
One time, the council of judges did not
thoroughly examine a court case and wrongly
sentenced an innocent man to death. Later, they
discovered the true culprit, but it was too late -
the innocent man had suffered. After this, the
black coffin started appearing in the Town Hall
as a terrifying warning to unjust judges.
The new generation of judges inscribed the
words "Remember the coffin that walked
through the stairs and halls of the Town Hall" in
large letters on the cover of the judicial book.
Every person who held the book in their hands
would think carefully before condemning
someone to a harsh punishment.

вілли “Півонія” на Погулянці, і близько двох років мешкав тут із нею. Відомий психіатр, з
яким товаришував адвокат, помітив важкі розлади у поведінці свого колєги. Той, у свою
чергу, поскаржився лікареві на фатальну, майже патологічну сексуальну залежність від цієї
жінки. А що адвокат був знаним донжуаном і завжди мав багато молодих та привабливих
жінок з якими легко поривав стосунки, то було дуже дивним, що виявився безсилим
простистояти принадам цієї демонічної жінки,і, що головне, відчував, що ця, на вигляд
тридцятирічна жінка, поступово висмоктує його життя.
Психіатр серйозно замислився над цим неординарним випадком і ним оволоділо велике
бажання врятувати товариша. Лікар переглянув усі старі історії хвороби і нарешті,
натрапивши на картку пані з Погулянки, не повірив своїм очам: ця жінка з діагнозом
психопатичної схибленості на сексуальному ґрунті зверталася до психопатолога 1875 року у
віці 45 років, отже на той момент їй мало бути не менше вісімдесяти.
У психіатра з’явилося нестримне бажання познайомитися з Сарою Брага – так називалася
ця пані. І ось він побачив молоду, дуже привабливу жінку і не зміг протистояти її чарам. На
цей час адвокат помер від невідомої хвороби, а лікар довідався, що Сара до нього мала ще
шістьох чоловіків, доля яких була невідомою. Усвідомлюючи всю небезпеку задуманого,
лікар все-таки оселився на Погулянці у домі Сари. Неймовірних зусиль коштувало йому не
піддаватися на спокусливі принади цієї демонічної жінки і жодного разу в них справа не
доходила до ліжка. І ось Сара, відчуваючи своє безсилля, почала старіти, на її молодому

Legend of the Witch Sarah

Around 1910, a young and brilliant lawyer from Lviv fell in love with a woman who owned the villa
"Pivonia" in Pohulyanka, and he lived with her for about two years. A well-known psychiatrist, who was
friends with the lawyer, noticed serious disturbances in his colleague's behavior. The lawyer, in turn,
complained to the doctor about his fatal, almost pathological, sexual dependence on this woman. It was
strange because the lawyer was known as a womanizer and always had many young and attractive
women with whom he easily ended relationships. But he found himself powerless against the charms of
this demonic woman, and, most importantly, he felt that this seemingly thirty-year-old woman was
gradually draining his life.

The psychiatrist seriously pondered over this extraordinary case, and a strong desire to save his friend
consumed him. The doctor reviewed all the old medical records and finally came across a file of a
woman from Pohulyanka. He couldn't believe his eyes: this woman, diagnosed with psychopathic
deviation of a sexual nature, had sought help from a psychiatrist in 1875 at the age of 45, which meant
she should have been at least eighty by that time.

The psychiatrist developed an uncontrollable desire to meet Sara Braga - that was the name of this
woman. And there he saw a young, very attractive woman and couldn't resist her charms. By that time,
the lawyer had died from an unknown illness, and the doctor learned that Sara had had six other
husbands, whose fate was unknown. Realizing the danger of his plan, the doctor still decided to settle in
Pohulyanka in Sara's house. It took tremendous effort for him to resist the tempting allure of this
demonic woman, and their relationship never escalated to the bedroom. And then Sara, feeling her
powerlessness, began to age, wrinkles appeared on her youthful face, and silver hairs on her head.
Neither pleas nor hysterics helped - the doctor remained unyielding. Meanwhile, while reading the
Bible, he accidentally discovered the secret of Sara in the Book of Tobit. It spoke of Sara from Media,
who had seven husbands, who were later given to the demon Asmodeus. Finally, one evening, when
they were sitting together on the couch in the living room, the doctor read her this passage from the
Old Testament. Sara let out a terrifying scream and ran out of the room. When the psychiatrist chased
after her, he found her body sprawled on the stairs. Sara was already dead.
