A. Reviewing previous lesson or ELICIT (3 minutes)
presenting the new lesson
Activity 1: Guess it!
Directions:
1. The learners will guess the rumbled words by raising their
right hand, the teacher will pick a student to hear there answer,
after guessing pictures will be shown with its corresponding
correct words.
(each students that can guess correctly will be added 1 point.)

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson The teacher will let the students read the lesson objectives.

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

a. define the term Geothermal Energy;

b. explain how geothermal energy from volcanoes
can generate electricity;
c. locate the Geothermal Power Plants in the
Philippines; and
d. create and design a collage on Geothermal
Power Plants in the Philippines
C. Presenting examples/instances of the ENGAGE
new lesson
The teacher will post pictures of different renewable sources of
energy found in the Negros Island. Can you recognize these
renewable sources of energy?

In your Araling Panlipunan class, you may have discussed these

renewable resources.
Why is sourcing from renewable supplies important?
Which among these sources can be obtained from volcanoes?
How can you say so?
Aside from knowing that geothermal energy can be sourced
from volcanoes, what else do you know about it?

D. Discussing new concepts and EXPLORE (20 MINUTES)

practicing new skills #1
Activity 2: ANSWER ME!

The learners will be grouped into 4 and each group will be

given a reading material to study the figure shown below on
how to generate electricity in a geothermal power plant in 7
minutes :
E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2

The following steps are followed to generate electricity in a

geothermal power plant:
1. Wells are drilled deep into the earth to pump steam or
hot water to the surface.
2. When the water reaches the surface, the drop in pressure
causes the water to turn into steam.
3. The steam spins a turbine, which is connected to a
generator that produces electricity.
4. Cooling tower cools the steam which condenses it back
to water.
5. The cooled water is pumped back into the earth to begin
the process again.

After studying the reading material each group will answer the
following guide questions in a manila paper, they will be given
5 minutes to answer the following question and present their
answers to the class:
Guide Questions:

Q1. What is Geothermal Energy?

_______________________________________________

Q2. Use a flowchart to explain how energy is transformed to

generate electricity in a geothermal power plant. Refer to the
illustration and the steps above.

F. Developing mastery EXPLAIN (8 Minutes)

ACTIVITY 3: LOCATE ME!!

Direction:
1. Each group will read the text in a reading material about
the location of geothermal power plants in the Philippines.
2. Each group must locate these geothermal power plants
by drawing a triangle around each province. Use the provided
Philippine map given by the teacher.

In the Philippines, geothermal power plants are used to generate

electricity in Tiwi (Albay), Kidapawan (North Cotabato),
Calaca (Laguna), Tongonan (Leyte), Bago City (Negros
Occidental), Valencia (Negros Oriental), Bacon (Sorsogon).

G. Finding practical applications ELABORATE: (8 MINUTES)

of concepts and skills in daily living
DIRECTION: The student will answer the following
questions in an essay form.

1. What are the pros and cons of geothermal powerplants in our

environment

H. Making generalizations and The teacher will ask the students orally about the following
abstractions about the lesson questions:
 What did you learn about geothermal energy?
 Is geothermal energy important to our community?
 How does geothermal heat get from the interior of the
earth to the surface?

EVALUATE (5 minutes)
I. Evaluating learning
Activity 5: Formative Assessment

Part I - True or False

Direction: Get ¼ sheet of paper and answer TRUE if the
statement is correct and FALSE if not. The teacher will read the
questions twice.

_______1. Geothernal energy resources are usually found in

the areas around plate borders where volcaninc eruptions and
earthquake happened.
_______2. The first step on how geothermal energy is generate
electricity is when wells are drilled deep into the earth to
pump steam or hot water to the surface.
_______3. Second step is when the steam spins a turbine,
which is connected to a generator that produces electricity.
_______4. Third step is when the water reaches the surface, the
drop in pressure causes the water to turn into steam.
________5. Fourth step is when cooling tower cools the steam
which condenses it back to water
_________6. Fifth step is when the cooled water is pumped
back into the earth to begin the process again.

Part II- Enumaration

7-11. What are the five steps followed to generate electricity in
a geothermal power plant:
12-13. What are the two ways in generating geothermal energy
14-15. Give atleast two places where geothermal powerplant is
located here in the Philippines.
EXTEND (2 minutes)

Assignment: Create and design a collage on Geothermal Power

Plants in the Philippines.

Direction:
What you need: sheet of paper, glue/paste, pair of scissors, any
materials found at home or in the surroundings
What to do:
A. Create a collage using any material found at home or in your
surroundings illustrating the geothermal power plants in the
Philippines. Do this in a separate sheet of paper.

V. REMARKS
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who require additional
activities for remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of
learners who have caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked
well? Why did this work?
