१७. सूक्तिसधा
This is a very important chapter because it is a collection of ancient Sanskrit verses compiled
from ancient Sanskrit texts-

उत्तराक्ति श्लोकः-१

Neither bangles beautify a person nor moon like necklaces. Neither a bath with perfumes and
unguents nor flowers on the head can beautify a person. It is only good speech that actually
adorns a person, rest other ornaments wither away but speech alone exists forever hence
speech is the true ornament.

One cannot compare scholarship (knowledge) with kingship because a king is worshipped in
his kingdom alone whereas a scholar is worshipped everywhere.
One has never heard or seen about a golden deer, neither in the past nor in the future. But
still the greed for the golden deer made Lord Rama to accept it- hence it is said during bad
times intellect becomes perverse (as doom approaches, mind reverses)

There is no letter devoid of mantra, there is no plant devoid of medicinal properties, there is
no unworthy person. What is lacking is an “enabler”

Bali was bound due to excessive charity and Duryodhana due to excessive pride. Due to
excessive fickleness Ravana was destroyed hence, anything in excess must be avoided.

O Lakshmana, I do not like this golden Lanka because mother and motherland are superior to
heaven
