The Thematic Fiche on Inclusion of young refugees and migrants
through education was produced by the members of the ET 2020
Working Group on Promoting Common Values and Inclusive
Education.
The present document, incorporating presentations and
discussions in Istanbul and in the subsequent Working Group
meeting in Brussels, brings together some of the major insights,
findings and discussions pertaining to the inclusion of young
refugees and migrants through education.

PAESIC (acronym for Pedagogical Approaches for Enhanced Social
Inclusion in the Classroom) is KA2 Erasmus+ project designated
with the purpose of supporting primary school teachers in
enhancing social inclusion in the classroom, particularly students
of refugee and migrant backgrounds.
The project provides practical tools in order to promote the
competences of teachers in enhancing social inclusion, finding
solutions in existing experiences and exploring innovative
methodologies and approaches.

Supporting newly arrived migrant children to master the language of schooling
alongside maintaining and further developing their personal linguistic repertoire
is key for their successful reception and integration, as well as successful
teaching.
Newly arrived pupils often have complicated, multi-country trajectories behind
them and have accumulated varied levels of proficiency in multiple languages.
At the same time, however, acquiring the language of schooling is not only key
for education, but also for the labour market and wider society. This presents a
conundrum as to how best to recognise social and linguistic difference as an
asset within Europe’s schools, while helping migrant children to thrive and
become active citizens by learning the language of schooling.

Мовна освіта на дошкільному та шкільному етапах є нагальною потребою, яку

неможливо оминути. На допомогу в опануванні мов учнями та для кращого
розуміння системності підходу педагогами, науковці, мовознавці та
методисти ЄС створили ґрунтовну базу, доступ до якої має кожен охочий до
вивчення та викладання іноземних мов.
