What I Need to Know
The main course of this module is Physical and Personal Development in the
Arts. These learning materials are based on the Most Essential Learning
Competencies (MELC, DepEd 2020) that are developed in a form of four modules in
the second quarter.
The lessons in each module were based on the most essential learning
competencies that a student must learn both in the performing arts and in the visual art
forms.
The module provides the learner in performing the essential task in designing
a particular creative workplace that is necessary both in the physical and personal
development not only in the performing arts in acting, dancing, or singing but of
every young artist both in the visual and media arts field of interest.
It contains the main key process and activities which you can perform at
home and in during the actual performances. It covers what you need to know and
need to do during the lessons within the given duration of two weeks.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
designs a hypothetical creative workplace that is hygienic and free of hazardous
materials

This module contains the following learning objectives the learner must
develop. In completion of this module, you must be able to:

a. describe a creative workplace that promotes hygienic and free of

hazardous materials ;
b. demonstrate understanding in designing a creative workplace that is
hygienic and a hazard free environment; and
c. recognize the value of designing a creative workplace that is hygienic and a
hazard free environment.

What’s In
In the previous lessons, we have tackled the essential information on how we
identify safety hazards in the creative industry and assess art safety, hazard free,
healthy, and secured workplace environment that is appropriate in the creative
industry.
These components are the fundamental elements that are to be applied in the
performance activity content provided in this module.

What’s New?
In this module, we are focusing on the physical factors where a professional
working environment is applied but also in the creative industry. In this learning
module, the physical factors and how these factors applied in a workplace that is
hygienic and free of hazardous materials.
This is the problem we must solve through a comprehensive design of a
creative workplace that is safe, hygienic, and free of hazardous materials in the future
activities of this module.

What is It?
What is the working environment?
These are a set of physical features and conditions, chemical, biological,
socio-psychological and other factors that could affect workers or staff in a working
environment. These physical factors include temperature, humidity, air flow,
vibration, lighting, noise, interior design and air pollution in the
workplace.

What are the physical factors to be considered in the creative work
environment industry?
Creative industry work production is done in a specific work environment
which consists of the following factors:
Noise. It includes all sounds in the workplace either wanted or unwanted
noise or sound from equipment, tools, and people’s conversation which may
prevent people from concentrating on their work.
Lighting. Working in a dim or over bright work environment can result in
eyestrain, headaches and irritability. Low levels of lighting can cause
depression. Consider the following light sources: visual functions which are
glare free and convenient; biological effects that are stimulating or relaxing;
and emotional perception that creates scenes and effects.
Color: It plays a very important element in the human body, mind, and spirit.
Different colors can also have a different impact on worker health such as
eyestrain, headache and fatigue.
Different activities need a different color environment which needs
concentration. Others prefer cool color is best for them, creative works such as
advertising, software design, and fashion design prefers warm color
environments.
Air Quality. Poor air quality can cause respiratory problems, headaches, and
fatigue. Air quality contains the following factors which includes temperature,
humidity, ventilation, and cleanliness.
Workplace furniture. It comprises tables, chairs, shelves, working tables.
This component has a specific role to play in the proper functioning of any
workplace environment.
Ergonomics. The ergonomics of furniture and fixtures in the workplace that
is comfortable and user friendly.

How important is the physical environment in the workplace?
The physical environment of a workplace greatly contributes the productivity
and success of a particular creative industry. It creates an attractive and comfortable
physical environment in the industry:
- Providing an optimum workplace environment for staff boosts a
creative workplace to attract clients and customers.
- It strengthens interpersonal work relationships among staff and
personnel in the creative industry.
- Enhances creative work environment productivity.

In a workplace where windows allow natural sunlight containing Vitamin D

giving a good mood to the workers. A clean work environment without too much
clutter allows workers to focus on their work and easy tasks.

Providing an open workplace to every worker promotes open communication

and better relationships among them.

How do we conduct risk assessment in a creative workplace?

How do we conduct an appropriate design for the implementation, control
measure that is hygienic and a hazard free environment? Below are the questions we
must consider in designing a workplace for a creative industry environment.
- Who will get harmed?
- How will they be harmed?
- What action do you take control in case there is a risk?
- Who are the people involved in risk control?

Designing an ideal physical workplace environment

Here are few considerations in designing a workplace that is appropriate in a
particular art discipline:
a. room temperature, lighting, and individual work performance.
b. Industry’s background.
c. functional areas such as study room, laboratory room, living and eating rooms
d. desirable physical space for work
- location that is easily accessible

Downloaded by Maria Rodriguez (maria.rodriguez009@deped.gov.ph)

- technology that is readily available and upgraded to use.
- space area and enclosure which include walls, ceilings, doors, and
windows
- size of usable work space
- improved workplaces and design

free environment, what would it be? Refer your answers in the “What is it”.
