Learners will be able to compare similar fractions using relation symbols (>, <, =)
through written and verbal explanations.
Learners will develop a positive attitude towards fraction comparisons, recognizing the
importance of precision and accuracy in mathematical reasoning.
Learners will be able to physically manipulate fraction models and demonstrate the
correct use of relation symbols in comparing similar fractions.
B. Priming:
1. Recall:
Briefly review the previous lesson on understanding similar fractions.
2. Motivation:
Share a real-life scenario where understanding and comparing similar fractions are
essential, such as dividing ingredients for a recipe.
C. Activity:
1. Introduction:
Discuss the importance of comparing similar fractions in everyday life.
Explain the relation symbols (> , < , =) and their meanings in the context of fractions.
2. Hands-on Manipulation:
Distribute fraction cards or manipulatives to students.
Ask students to create pairs of similar fractions using the provided materials.
Encourage them to use the relation symbols to compare and arrange the fractions.
3. Group Activity:
Divide the class into small groups.
Provide each group with a set of fraction cards and ask them to compare and order the
fractions within their group.
Each group will then present their findings on the whiteboard.
D. Analysis:
Discuss the different approaches the groups took in comparing and ordering the fractions.
Clarify any misconceptions and emphasize the correct use of relation symbols.
E. Abstraction:
Introduce a step-by-step method for comparing similar fractions using relation symbols.
Write examples on the board and guide students through the process.
F. Application:
Distribute worksheets with various problems for individual practice.
Walk around the classroom, providing assistance as needed.
Review and discuss the solutions as a class.
