ENGL 4021 M03 MINUTES
Meeting Date: August 18, 2022
Call to Order:

A regular meeting of the Course ENGL 4021 M03 of the University of Puerto Rico at Ponce was held in
room MTC3 on August 18, 2022. The meeting convened at 9:07am, Professor LeCompte presiding and
Isaida Rivera Mercado secretary. All students attended except: Derick Rivera, and Nashali Santiago.

Approval of Minutes:

Minutes of the August 16, 2022, meeting were distributed to members of the course and approved after
corrections.

Matters Discussed:

1. Professor Le Compte welcomed the students and began the meeting with a free writing exercise
that the students had three minutes to answer: "If you could sit on this bench and chat for one hour
with anyone from the past or present who would it be?”

2. Le Compte emphasized one of the rules in the technical documents that says that the number
from one-ten must be a word, while eleven and up can be written as digits.

3. The professor explained the difference between cognate and false cognate. Cognate means a
word that is similar in two languages whereas false cognate is a word that looks similar but is not.
She also gave an example of false cognate: "assist" is helping not attendance.

4. Professor Le Compte spoke about the Progress Report which will be the last work presented in
the portfolio. This will work as a team and will be worth 100 points. In the progress report, eight
community hours will be completed in the University of Puerto Rico at Ponce Atabey Garden with
the Coalición Estudiantil Pro-Agricultura (CEPA) association

5. Miguel Costas notified that he is the president of the CEPA association. He also explains to the
students the days they can participate with the association to comply with the Progress Report,
which will be Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Motion:

Luis Santiago presented a motion for the students to select their own group to work in the Progress Report
project.
Miguel Costas presented a motion to have three people per group, Motion have an opposition by
Soannette Santiago. She presented a motion to have four people per group. The motion was approved.

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 10:17am.
