b. Explain the role of hormones involved in the male and female
Learning Competency Reproductive System. (S10LT-IIIb-34)

I. Learning Objectives
4. Identify the male and female hormones. (K)
5. Explain the role of hormones of the male and female reproductive
Systems. (U)
7. Create a Venn diagram showing the hormones secreted by the different
organs of the Reproductive System. (D)
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Role of hormones involved in the male and female Reproductive
System

 Hormones -play an important role in both male and female

Reproductive systems. The pituitary gland controls the functions of both the
testes and the ovaries. These hormones keep the reproductive system
properly functioning.
A. Concept

 Hormones secreted by the ovaries and a small gland in the brain called
the pituitary gland control the menstrual cycle.

paragraph about the “Role of Male and Female Reproductive System
Hormone.”
F. Integration of other learning
areas ICT: ICT skills by 1.) Creating/ Reporting thru video blog on explaining
about the Role of Male and Female Reproductive System Hormone.
2.) Using social media thru FB post on group page.
III. Procedures
 Engage A. PRE- ASSESSMENT: LOOP ACTIVITY
 Teacher will ask to answer the Loop Activity which would engage
students and hook them to the lesson.
 Students will be asked to answer the “What I Know” and “What I Want
to know” first. After which, students will be ask to share their thoughts
about the topic and answer “ What I have learned from my classmate”

B. READ ME: Short Paragraph Reading

 Teacher will ask to read a short paragraph about “Role of Hormones in

the Reproductive System” (See attachment for the short paragraph)
 After reading, Students will be asked to underline the hormones in the

2
paragraph and answer guide question.
 The following are questions to be asked;
 What is hormone?
 What is the important role of the hormone?
 What are the roles of hormone of the reproductive system?
 How many male reproductive hormones were identified in the
short paragraph? What are these hormones?
 How many female reproductive hormones were identified in the
short paragraph? What are these hormones?
 What are the roles of the male reproductive hormone?
 What are the roles of the female reproductive hormone?

Strategy: Loop Activity and Short Paragraph Reading

Process Skills: Remembering (Recall Previous Lesson), Literacy Skill/
Reading Comprehension.
A. VIDEO CLIP
 Teacher will asked student to watch a short Video Clip about
“The role of hormones of Gonads”
from the http://youtube.com/watch?v=VLHcwoDk7SA
 Students will be asked to jot down notes. Teacher will give guide
question for students to be guided.
 Teacher will checked the notes jotted by the students.
 The following are the guide question:
 List down the male reproductive hormones?
 What are the roles of these male reproductive hormones?
 Explore  List down the female reproductive hormones?
 What are the roles of these female reproductive hormones?
 Students will be with their group, and share their thoughts on the guide
questions.

B. THINK-SHARE-POST
 Each group will be given a METACARDS where they will write their
answer. And post it on the board. The first group to finish will be given
plus points.

Strategy: Video Clip, Think-Share-Post

Process Skills: Listening skill, Analyzing, Cooperation, and Communication
 Explain A. FB BLOG and FB post
 For the explain part of the lesson, students will be ask to REPORT
thru BLOG and FB Post Activity on the concept of the lesson and the
answer to the guide question.
 For REPORT thru BLOG will be done by Group 3. While group 1,
2, 4, 5, and 6 will be asked to do the FB Post Activity. The group
will post their answer which was placed in the METACARDS and

3
post it in the FB Group page. Pictures while doing the activity are
also posted. Then using the hashtag below:

B. POST ACTIVITY DISCUSSION

 Teacher will give feedback on students activity
 Teacher will provide brief the explanations on the activities done
and give answers to guide questions.
 The following are answers to the guide question;
a. List down the male reproductive hormones?
- Testosterone
b. What are the roles of these male reproductive hormones?
- Responsible for the male secondary characteristic such as increase in
muscle, increase in bone mass and hair growth
- Development of male organs such as testis and prostate gland
c. List down the female reproductive hormones?
- Progesterone and estrogen
d. What are the roles of these female reproductive hormones?
- Estrogen: promote development in the secondary characteristic of
females. Involved in regulating menstrual cycle.
- Progesterone: Involves in the menstrual cycle, pregnancy an
embryogenesis.

C. INTERACTIVE CLASS DISCUSSION/LECTURE

 With the use of visual aid (illustration), teacher will point the male
and female organ , then ask the student to identify the hormone
present
 Teacher will give a brief explanation the role of the male and female
reproductive system.
 The following are additional information which the teacher will
discuss;
The male reproductive system also has prostate glands. Chemicals from
these glands nourish the sperm cells and help them mature.
The production of sperm cells and the release of semen can be regulated by
hormones or special chemicals that come from the testis, the brain and the
pituitary gland. These hormones keep the reproductive system properly
functioning.

The female reproductive system, just like the male reproductive system, is

4
also regulated by hormones. The follicles produce hormones that control the
growth and release of eggs from the ovaries. While other hormones prepare
the uterus so a baby can grow in it, other hormones still l control the
stretching of the uterus during pregnancy.

Strategy: Reporting thru Video Blogging and FB posting (ICT Integration)

Process skills: ICT skills, Communicating, Collaborating, Creating and
Critical Thinking
 Elaborate A. GRAPHIC ORGANIZER (TABLE COMPLETION)
 Teacher will let the student to complete the table posted on the board.
Below is the table to be used for table completion.
Reproductive Gland/Organ Hormone Role (Function)
System
Male

Female

 Teacher will present the answer of the table and give addition
information regarding the hormones secreted by the pituitary which is
also aids in the production of reproductive hormones.

 Teacher will also relate real life situation which serves as the primary
role of the hormones. Teacher will ask students regarding activities
happen in their bodies which is cause by the hormones.

B. Venn Diagram
 Teacher will ask the student to; create a Venn diagram showing
the hormones secreted by the different organs of the

5
Reproductive System.
 Student will create a Venn diagram using whatever resources, the
student wishes to use provided the Venn diagram would show the
hormones secreted by the different organs of the Reproductive
System.

Strategy: Graph Organize, Venn Diagram

Process Skills: Analyzing , Creating and Critical Thinking
A. Paper Pencil Test
 Teacher will give a paper pencil test using the following type of test.

Test I. Identification
Directions: Read the statement carefully. Identify the type of reproductive
hormone. Write your answer on the space provided.

____________1. Regulates the development of male sex organs.

____________2. Acts as maintenance of uterus during menstrual cycle.
____________3. Stimulates production of milk.
 Evaluate ____________4. Regulates the female secondary sex characteristic.
____________5. Functions for progesterone production in female and
testosterone production in male.

Test II. Short Essay

Directions: Answer the following in a short and informative statement.

“Explain the role of hormones of the male and female reproductive

Systems”

Strategy: Paper-Pencil Test: Identification and Short Essay

Read and Research about the following question:
1. Effect of a particular male and female reproductive hormone in the
