Tongue Twisters
STEP 1: WARM-UP
1. Look at the picture and read what is inside the box. Then, answer the questions that
follow.
2. Questions:
a. On the first box, what letter is being underlined? What about on the second box?
b. What is the sound of the first underlined letter? What about the second one?
c. Yes or no, are the two underlined letters on the first box have the same sound?
What about the underlined letters on the second box?
STEP 2: MODELLING
What is a tongue twister?
A tongue twister is a sequence of words or sounds that are typically difficult to
pronounce quickly and correctly.
For letters that require aspiration, try having students hold something
light like a tissue or streamer in front of their face. When they say the letter
properly, the item should move as they let out the burst of air.
A mirror can also be very helpful in allowing students to shape their mouths
correctly and to see that their tongue is in the correct position. You may also
want to draw the correct positions on the board and make sure you form your
letter sounds very precisely so students can copy you effectively.
If a twister is less than five words, it’s usually a good idea to have
students repeat it three times. This will tend to trip your students up. Start
slowly, by pronouncing each word carefully and having them say it after you,
then speed things up as they get the hang of it.

comfortable. Try watching yourself in the mirror to see the shape of your mouth and where you
are placing your tongue. Then try to recite as fast as possible without tripping over it.
Step 5: Application

Column B, think of words that will best replace the original underlined words in the tongue twisters.

The coronaviruse COVID-19 pandemic is the defining global healht crisis of our time and the
greatest chalenge we have faced since World War Two. Since its emirgence in Asia late last year, the

Countryes are racing to slow the spread of the virus by testing and treating patients,
carrying out contact tracing, limiting travvel, quarantining citizens, and cancelling large
gatherings such as sporting events, concerts, and schools.
But COVID-19 is much more than a health crisis. By stressing every one of the countries

Bonifacio Day
Robot Mothers
Being a mother is difficult. Mothers take care of children and do house works everyday,
even on weekends. Many mothers also work. When mothers are at work, they often leave their
children with a babysitter. Unfortunately, babysitters are expensive and sometimes, they aren’t
nice to the children.
It would be nice if someday, every family owned a robot to help take care of the children.
Then, being a mother would also be easier. Maybe the robot could help with the household
chores like cooking, cleaning and washing clothes. Do you think this is possible? Will we have
robots someday to help us with our household chores? Could a robot be a mother?
Remember: Noting details is a reading comprehension skill that involves picking out,
from a piece of text, the particular piece/s of information to achieve a given purpose.
Noting details is one of the advanced skills that a good reader
possesses. This skill enables the reader to fully understand a certain text and helps
unlock the questions he has before, during and after reading.
